Photos: ‘Once Upon A Time’ Preschool Parade

Preschoolers at Once Upon A Time, Chapter Two, on Woodbourne Avenue hosted their own May 24th Bermuda Day Parade recently.

The class focused on recycled goods last month and decided to carry that into their Bermuda theme for this month by creating a parade mostly made out of newspaper.

Classroom teachers Erin Simons and Tonae Tavares made the costumes from scratch with limited materials with the students.

.

Ms. Tavares stated, “We wanted the children to really feel apart of the Bermuda Day tradition by putting on our own parade. We focused on recycling last month and I thought it would be great to reuse those materials to make the costumes. The students were extremely excited, and couldn’t wait to perform.”

The parade was opened up with the traditional May 24th Marathon runners, followed by a biker, two pageant girls, the majorettes and their drummers and the always anticipated parade finisher, the Gombeys.

Mrs. Carruthers, the Director said, “The parents and I were very impressed with the costumes and performances. Both the children performing and spectating were very enthusiastic about the parade. We are now looking into making it an annual event.”
