Video: Rough Sailing For Oracle Team USA
A recent day on the water for Oracle Team USA allowed for the capturing of a light moment as the crew lost control of their craft at high speed, resulting in a watery spill for the sailors aboard.
The defending champion of the America’s Cup recently launched its training boat for the first time, with the team also capturing video footage of their new craft seeing its first day on Bermuda’s Great Sound.
Tom Slingsby, Oracle Team’s sailing manager and tactician, said at the launch, “Today is the first day for our AC45 out on the Great Sound. We’ve been working towards this moment for nearly six months since Bermuda was announced as the venue.
“The goal today is to commission the boat. While this AC45S has sailed before in February, today we need to get out there, check all the systems and make sure everything is working as it should.”
Oracle Team USA will continue to train on its AC45S as well as the smaller foiling Phantom catamarans and Moths on the Great Sound over the coming weeks.
“It’s a real statement to be the first ones out there on the 45-footer and to get a feel for the race course on a boat of this size,” skipper Jimmy Sptithill said. “It can only help to give us an advantage as we come into the race period.”
ok. i thought it was just me yesterday having difficulty controlling a 9ft inflatible…it was rough! lol
In weather like this , these fellow yachtsman need to know when to call it a day. A cold case of Amsterdam lager is all they need to enjoy the rest of the afternoon . If it were me I would be hauling my sexski out of the water. And retreating to BBi HQ
Fabulous, BERNEWS,,,
Yeah, I guess we need to mention that Bermuda is really shifty.
Are you not entertained??!!! Ahhh Yes I am
