Summer Schedule: Youth Library Hours Change
The Bermuda National Library said they would like to inform the public that effective today [18 May] until 12 September, the Youth Library will operate on a summer schedule.
The Youth Library — located at 74 Church Street in Hamilton — will be open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m.; Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and closed on Saturdays.”
Director of the Bermuda National Library, Joanne Brangman explained the change in hours, she stated: “This year the Youth Library will once again provide a variety of summer programmes for students and young children.
“Typically during the summer, the Youth Library has less visitors and members coming in to use our services on Saturday. We anticipate that the week day schedule will continue benefit students and their parents and will not impact on our summer programmes.

Why doesn’t the library instead be closed Monday and open on Saturday. Working parents quite often work Monday to Friday and would benefit if the library was open on a Saturday? I would suggest being open Tuesday to Saturday a better operating hours for those that could use it.
Since when do civil servants work for the convenience of the public?
Civil servants want Saturday off like most people. They don’t want to take Monday off.
I was disappointed to hear that it will be closed Saturdays from now until mid-Sept. My 5 yr old son enjoys visiting the library and participating in the reading programme contests they run. I work Mon- Fri and he’ll be in camp, so looks like he’ll be missing out this summer.
So typical of Bermuda. Take away weekend access during the summer to the library. We want to encourage our kids to read. Guess the “librarians” don’t.
