Post Office To Introduce Rate Change On July 1
The Bermuda Post Office said they will introduce a rate change on July 1st, 2015, saying that ”given the increased global costs for doing business, rates must be adjusted to reflect these trends.”
A statement from the Post Office said, “The Bermuda Post Office [BPO] would like to advise the public that it will introduce a rate change and modernization of its postal products on July 1st, 2015 for local and international letter mail, parcels and International Data Express [IDE].
“The BPO has not issued a rate increase on the majority of its products since 2000. However, given the increased global costs for doing business, rates must be adjusted to reflect these trends.
“Local postage rates are used to calculate the terminal dues that Bermuda earns as revenue for delivering mail from postal services in other jurisdictions.
“Terminal dues are an important source of income for all postal administrations, including the BPO. Stamp sales and terminal dues represent 74 percent of the BPO’s annual revenue which underscores the need for a rate increase.
“For every increase in the US, Canada and UK postal rates over the last 15 years, Bermuda’s revenue potential has consistently lagged behind and reduced, along with the reduction in mail volumes.
“The 2015 Rate Change Project will adjust rates in respect to cost, while taking the opportunity to modernize the postal product categories, weight increments and transit route references [where applicable] for local and international mail.
“In addition to the postage rate increase, the BPO also intends to implement other revenue generating initiatives, products and services, aimed at increasing overall revenues and decreasing operational costs via natural attrition and increased operational efficiency. All of this is intended to drive the BPO towards its vison of being a more innovative, customer-focused and sustainable postal service.
“In order to prepare all systems and processes for the aforementioned changes and create the conditions for a smooth transition; all BPO locations will be closed for transactions on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. However, mail will still be delivered to all routes and parishes.

I guess someone has to pay for the eighty percent over staffing.
Well after they sell the prime property at Somerset Bridge and Harrington Sound all will be back to normal.

Went to the linked site and no posting of new rates. Guess I will have to bother their overworked(!) employees to mail my post cards back to the US when I get there.
I followed t he link and after a few wrong turns finally found the new rates…… Sorry did not write them down.
Lowest local going from 35 to 50. USA lowest to 1:15…….. Cannot remember zone 2 and 3 new rates.
I have a lovely post person, efficient and friendly. Just need to take a Valium before collecting parcels!
More people than ever with less money than ever but no problem . We’ll just put prices up like things are still booming .
This is about as dumb as it gets…whomever is making these assinine decisions is trying to feed a dinosaur…what they should be doing is trying to bring it into the new century by streamlining in every way they can.
If they actually looked at revenue creation using all the unused space and employee capacity…god knows, they might be able to stay above water…and continue to employ people. This way, more jobs will go soon…..its called supply and demand

Ha ha Brilliant….. they close Paget PO down and we now have to travel to Wrwick to collect our parcels as well as paying more for this service?!
I have to pick up may mail from main post office in town
Actually, last week I received a parcel slip to my Paget P.O. Box and was told I had to collect it in Hamilton. Ya. That’s convenient.
Do you think this extra charge will cover “service with a smile” at the main Hamilton Post Office. If so it might be worth it.
AH how wonderfull and they are still “LOOSING” $7Million dollars per year.
Time to PRIVITIZE and it will generate income for Government.
We have too much DEBT too little GROWTH and too many unreasonable promises made by the previous administration.
When this government closes down home delivery and requires the Bermuda population to go to central clearing houses to pick up your mail which you will have to pay for; for it will not be for free. At that point there will be no more talk of a post office that is over staffed.
Will it still be staffed by unfriendly people who ignore you?

This was the one article that I thought you might have something intelligent to say, being you were involved in the postal service for so many years?? But once again you have proven that what I usually think about your comments!!! They are nothing but NONSENSE!!!!!!

What many bloggers do not know is that the post office is not overstaffed. In fact, the post office is the only Government Department that has reduced its staffing by 35% over the past 5 years!! The post office has gone from 232 people in 2010 to 150 in 2015!! Still think it’s overstaffed? The post office is not overstaffed. Get your facts straight; otherwise you don’t know what you are talking about. This information is all available to the public.
