Baseball: YAO Cal Ripken League Results
The bats were busy at Kindley Field during the YAO Cal Ripken League and when the dust cleared the CUBS had recorded a 14-9 win over the Cardinals in six innings.
The teams combined for 23 hits, including eight extra base hits. Sam Resnik racked up three RBI’s on two hits for CUBS. Justice Hammer led all players with 5 RBI’s.
The CUBS never trailed after scoring four runs in the first on an RBI single by Kaelin Paynter and a three-run Triple by Hammer.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the first inning, and then followed it up with two more in the fourth.
In the first, the Cardinals scored on an RBI triple by Somers Mello plating Noah Autmezguine, who had a strong day at the plate and in the field.
One run in the bottom of the second helped the Cardinals close their deficit to 5-3. Paynter ended the rally by getting a strike out.
The CUBS increased its lead with four runs in the third. Paynter started the inning with a single, bringing home Alex Downey. That was followed up by Hammer’s single, plating Resnik and Paynter.
Four runs in the bottom of the third helped the Cardinals close their deficit to 9-7. An RBI single by Lipshutz Joshua, an RBI single by Autmezguine, and a groundout by Sam Lipchutz set off the Cardinals rally. Sam Resnik pitched 4 strong innings, striking out 9 walking one and giving up 4 hits. Cardinals were led by Joshua Lipchutz and Max Mcrimmon, combining for 6 strikeouts, 4 walks and 8 hits.
In the other game, the Braves came out on top for a 8-5 win against the Orioles.
The bottom of the first saw the Orioles take an early lead 2-0. The Braves surged in the second but the Orioles rallied put up two runs of their own in the second. The Orioles scored on a walk by Wyatt Wolyshon and a walk by Liam McCue.
The Braves took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. A groundout by Braves Aaron White scored William Nokes and gave the YAO Braves the lead for good.
Micaiah Furbert had a hot bat for the Braves as he went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the sixth inning.
Aidan Washington pitched an impressive outing against the Orioles’ lineup. Aidan held the Orioles hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out six.
