Man Granted Discharge For Christmas Tree Theft
At his original appearance in Plea Court, Ezra Barnett pleaded not guilty to a charge that on 8th December 2014, he stole 23 Christmas trees that belonged to the Shelly Bay Marketplace store.
Electing to be tried in Magistrate’s Court, Mr Barnett was given a trial date in late April 2015 at which time he plead guilty. A Social Inquiry Report was ordered and Mr Barnett appeared in Plea Court this morning and was granted an Absolute Discharge.
This morning [July 3], through his lawyer, Mr Barnett admitted to Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that he had stolen the trees as he thought that the Marketplace stores took unfair advantage of Bermudians and he sought to redress the matter.
Speaking for himself he said that it had been a stupid thing to do and he now regretted it. He confirmed that the Marketplace stores had been fully compensated for their loss.
