These bus shelters are so dangerous. They should all be taken down and then accidents like this simply wouldn’t happen. Unless the person was wearing a tinted visor in which case they should be banned instead.

I don’t expect Government will do anything about it as usual.

    • robert says:

      You sound soooo stupid !!

    • Edwin says:

      Mildred, you sound very Silly(dred).

    • Twin says:

I think you should read the article first before you comment. First of all it was a taxi, not a bike so how does the tinted visor even apply. Second, why in the world would they take the bus shelters down 1. they provide shelter for people waiting for the bus and also bike riders when its raining. 3 When have you ever seen a bus shelter cause an accident, the last time i check they don’t have wheels and I’m sure they are stationary.

    • Jeremy Deacon says:

      you are joking, aren’t you?

  2. Concerned says:

they should post the taxi no.

  3. Just One says:

Lots of people driving extra fast and cutting corners this week… Please take it easy people, I want you to see many more holidays…

  4. Oh,I see now says:

In order to to do that much damage DUI or fell asleep at the wheel take your pick.I do hope he and if any passengers were in the car are all ok.

    • Raymond Ray says:

@ Oh, I see now: I agree, the individual may have fell asleep or had been driving drunk. Yet there are other possibilities that may have caused this to happen e.g. a heart attack, or a stroke amongst other medical ailments. I also hope / pray for the/m, “a speedy recover.”

  5. Miguelito says:

So, let me get this straight…this guy does this much damage and then just takes off?

  6. impressive. says:

how did they miss the front of the bus shelter and hit the back? anyway,, hope they ok

    • Come On ThRead says:

There is a road just behind it, (see 4th pic down) . Looks like they slid on grass and hit it from behind.

    • Raymond Ray says:

Look at photos provided by Bernews and you’ll see the vehicle was coming off of the hill and not on Middle Road…

  7. Terry says:

In the 6th picture is that not a piece of a car?

    Maybe a new drinking fountain?

If the police are so interested how they know it was a taxi.

    Boggled.

  8. Sickofantz says:

I have nearly been run down by a taxi driver once when I was crossing Front St with my 4 year old son at a green light on a crossing and some dippy old taxi driver went straight through the red light and another time riding my bike a taxi decided to turn right in front of me. My near neighbour was hit by a taxi and nearly killed, a young friend was driven wildly by young men in a taxi who locked the doors and threatened her and now this!

  9. Y-Gurl says:

Oh well, that’ll keep works and engineering busy until about December

  10. Triangle Drifter says:

“colliding with a bus shelter”. So now in addition to walls & utility poles we have to worry about bus shelters wandering the roads & colliding with unsuspecting vehicles.

A vehicle CRASHED into that very stable bus shelter. No other way to describe it. The driver drove it into shelter. The vehicle did not decide all by itself to go for a little OFFROAD driving & smash into that shelter sitting there minding its own business.

  11. Mama Bear says:

Drove by this morning. Taxi was there. Im positive police have the plates as I went by at 745 and they report arriving at 620. . No way it came from middle rd? It came from the cemetary side. Weird. Seems too much damage for it to pop out of gear and roll down hill. And why if innocent would the driver leave the scene of the Accident unless disoriented and somewhere wandering. Very odd

  12. Truth is killin' me... says:

When are people gonna start being held accountable for their actions!?This s*** is happening on a regular basis. Does anyone care?

    • Now Ya Nice says:

I agree with you (Truth is Killing me). Almost daily it seems that someone hits a wall, rail, bus shelter or something else. Some are accidents and some are DUI, speeding or other acts of stupidity. If the damage is done on private property its dealt with, but it seems that if you hit a bda stone wall, gate, shelter, rail or anything else on public property it just gets left to deteriorate further or government pays to eventually fix it. Why are the individuals that caused the damage (or their insurance companies) not forced to fix it.

25+ years ago most of our roads were lined with beautiful bda stone layered walls. Over the years people have hit the walls and their cars were taken away. Sometimes even parts were left behind and the walls never repaired. Now they look like crap. Not the fault of the UBP, PLP, OBA, we as a community have let this happen.

OBA, PLP please push to introduce, reintroduce or enforce a law that would force those that caused the damage to fix the damage or pay to fix the damage.

This has a truck written all over it

  14. Gold taxi van says:

Saw the bus shelter yesterday morning around 8:30am with a gold taxi van lodged inside the back of it and was hooked up to a tow truck. Hope the driver/passenger(s) are okay.

    • It's allabou' da bass says:

Heavy downpour? Too fast for conditions perhaps.

  15. Really? says:

In the last pic there is what appears to be a piece of a bumper in the rubble. Maybe the plate is attached?

  16. Mildred says:

…and if they took all the corners out of our roads then hardly any accidents would happen. And let’s get rid of walls too cos people keep hitting them.
