Photos: International Park[ing] Day In Hamilton

September 18, 2015

International PARK[ing] Day is being celebrated today [Sept 18] in the City of Hamilton for the third consecutive year with displays on Reid Street and Court Street.

PARK[ing] Day is an annual, worldwide event which began in San Francisco 10 years ago where parking spaces are turned into temporary public parks and other spaces for people to enjoy. The intent is to promote creativity, civic engagement and social interactions in the public realm.

.

The Department of Planning and the Corporation of Hamilton joined forces to encourage artists, musicians, businesses and community groups to use their imagination and to transform selected car parking spaces on Lower Reid Street and Court Street for one day.

This year’s PARK[ing] Day participants and sponsors include: Washington Properties [Bermuda] Limited, Sousa’s Landscaping, the Bermuda College, Ashley’s Lemonade, Paddle Pops, Sweet Saak, the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, the Institute of Bermuda Architects, the Department of Planning, the Department of Parks, the Corporation of Hamilton, and more.

Is it more or is this the most pointless day ever? All they are doing is taking up parking spaces that people want!

    • Y-Gurl says:

Agreed, it’s one of the most stupid things we do, another one of the “if it works there it’ll work in Bermuda” idiotic ideas I’ll never understand what about these types of ideas sounds good to someone.

    • Alafiyah says:

JIM BOB (sure this is not your name) but your are so negative. Let me ask you this? What have you done to bridge the retailers with the community and shoppers. These people planned, set up, designed a great day to celebrate OUR BERMUDA….so take a hike and park somewhere else, you naysayer!

    • frank says:

They don’t have to create a park on Reid street. They have 2. Parks in the city take the event to them
I have travelled to lots of. Cities have never seen such a stupid. Thing done

  2. J Starling says:

    I like it.

Still think Reid would be ideal for pedestrianisation and beautification along these lines…

  3. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Well let’s do underground parking at city hall then make front street one way In as far as Parlaville n Bermudianas roads leading to Church n Victoria both lanes out…then Reid street can remove asphalt n grow grass…nahhhhhhhh. ..that would make too much sense…but truthfully our blocks are small enough for those moving sidewalks (sorry but I forgot the real name)…Unfortunately you need money to make money…that’s why the rich get richer n the poor get poorer…bie lemme go bie!! I’m late.

Those Royal Blue Vase garden design is fabulous, I am going to create my small back yard from your design. Thanks to whomever designed that small space. LOVE IT!

  5. I like this idea…i also like city hall parking lot to be built upwards a validation parking instituted…thereby assurance of commerce…prooof of purchase and free parking…participating businesses actually stipend parking area…not clientel….also…if no purchase then all is fine …just pay cash…close reidstreet to vehicular traffic.Mmmmkaaaay?
