The Theme “Working Together to enhance National Pride” is quite fitting, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque said in his congratulatory message to St. Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

He said the people have much to be proud of, as the country has moved steadfastly along the development path over its 36 years of nationhood.

The message said, “On behalf of the Caribbean Community [CARICOM], I extend warmest congratulations to you and the People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the occasion of your country’s Thirty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence.

“The theme, ‘Working Together to enhance National Pride’ is quite fitting. There is much for the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines to be proud of over thirty-six years of nationhood, as the country has moved steadfastly along the path to development with unyielding determination.

“One of the significant aspects of an independent St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been its unwavering commitment to CARICOM regional integration and active participation in the Organs and Institutions of the Community.

“CARICOM joins the Government and People of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in celebrating this Thirty-Sixth Anniversary of Independence and extends best wishes for the continued progress and sustainable development of the country.”

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry also extended his congratulations, saying: “On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines on your thirty-sixth year of independence.

“The warm spirit of the people of your archipelago entices visitors from around the world to enjoy the golden sands of the Grenadines, your beautiful waterfalls, rugged mountains, and the musical storytelling of your Calypsonians.

“This year, the United States reaffirmed our partnership with your vibrant nation through the Caribbean Energy Security Initiative and the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative. We also work together to reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases.

“As you celebrate another year of independence, know that the people of the United States wish you a joyful day and a strengthening of the friendship between our countries.”
