EMO Advisory: Buses, Ferries, Shelter & More
Ferries will not run tomorrow [Oct 4] and all bus service will be suspended as of 10.00am tomorrow, the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] said this evening.
The EMO said, “Current Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] forecasts indicate that Hurricane Joaquin’s closest point of approach will be some 87 NM west of Bermuda at around 10.00 pm Sunday evening.
“Bermuda is expected to experience strengthening tropical force winds tomorrow morning around 10.00 am. Some hurricane force winds will be experienced in elevated areas tomorrow as the day progresses.
A look at the weather conditions at Watch Hill Park earlier today:
“The EMO confirmed that all emergency services such as the Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, Belco, the Bermuda Hospital’s Board and the Department of Public Works have all positioned their resources and are prepared.
“As it relates to public transport, ferries will not run tomorrow due to rough seas. Public transportation buses will conclude all routes today, however all bus service will be suspended as of 10.00 am tomorrow [Sunday] morning.
“The EMO further advised that the Government shelter at CedarBridge Academy will open at 10 am tomorrow [Sunday] morning for persons who wish to use that facility.
“Due to wind effects tomorrow, there may be an impact on flights. Residents are encouraged to call their respective airlines to get latest updates on flight arrivals and departures.
“As it relates to the opening of schools and Government offices the EMO will provide an update to the public Sunday afternoon.”

The Acting Premier, E.T. Bob Richards and the Commissioner of Police, Michael DeSilva convened another meeting of the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] late today [Saturday Oct. 3] to get the latest updates regarding Hurricane Joaquin.
Current Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] forecasts indicate that Hurricane Joaquin’s closest point of approach will be some 87 NM west of Bermuda at around10.00 pm Sunday evening.
Bermuda is expected to experience strengthening tropical force winds tomorrow morning around 10.00 am. Some hurricane force winds will be experienced in elevated areas tomorrow as the day progresses.The EMO confirmed that all emergency services such as the Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Police Service, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service, Belco, the Bermuda Hospital’s Board and the Department of Public Works have all positioned their resources and are prepared.
And the EMO advised that as of this evening, residents should have completed their storm preparations.

In the meantime, the Island still remains under a Hurricane Watch and the public is encouraged to stay abreast of weather and news updates regarding the approaching storm. To ensure that all safety and precautions are taken, the EMO is strongly urging the public to stay off the roads tomorrow as the deteriorating weather approaches.
The public should note that at 8.00 am tomorrow morning the Emergency Broadcast System [EBS] will go live and provide storm related information every half hour.
The EBS is located at 100.1 FM.

Roof And Tank
Block the gutters with clean rags or other device to prevent any leaves, salt and other contamination from entering your water tank.
Windows & Doors
Installing storm shutters over all exposed windows and other glass surfaces is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect your home. Cover all windows, French doors, sliding glass doors and skylights. Plywood shutters that you make yourself, if installed properly, can offer a high level of protection from flying debris during a hurricane.
Outdoor Furniture
Bring in outdoor objects such as lawn furniture, toys and garden tools; anchor objects that cannot be brought inside but that could be wind-tossed. Remove outdoor antennas, if possible.

why would the shelter open just when the bus service stops. people needing to catch the bus to the shelter should not have to brave this weather until ten ..
