PTI Offering Scholarships To Bermudian Students
Pittsburgh Technical Institute [PTI] will now begin offering scholarships to Bermudian students thanks to a recently-signed Memorandum of Understanding between PTI and the Department of Workforce Development.
“PTI will offer a $5000 scholarship for all students pursuing a 12 month certificate program and a $10,000 scholarship to all students pursuing an associate degree in any one of the disciplines offered at the college,” the Department said.
“PTI is accredited through Middle States Commission on Higher Education, offering academic programs that prepare students for careers by delivering employer-directed curriculum.

“This MOU is entered into for a period of two years. Under the agreement PTI will provide education and training for Bermudian students; PTI instructors will provide short technical education training sessions in Bermuda; and Bermudian senior high school students will be able to participate in familiarization visits to PTI.”
“The National Apprenticeship System is a vital component of the Island’s workforce development strategy,” explained Training Manager at the Department of Workforce Development Pandora Glasford.
“A need for training in the following areas of occupation has been identified: air conditioning technology, auto collision repair, automotive technology, carpentry, marine mechanics, electrical technology, construction, electronics, and plumbing technology.
“PTI will work collaboratively with the Department to identify an appropriate offering of courses designed to meet the social and economic development needs of Bermuda.”
“PTI provides a three-month work experience component for all students prior to completing their program, no matter the area of concentration,” the Department added.
“The Department may request places in particular PTI training programmes or courses to be reserved for Bermudian students.
“Students eligible for the Bermuda Scholarship must meet the admissions standards of PTI and become full- time degree or certificate seeking students at PTI.
“The MOU also stipulates that PTI will provide Bermudian students arriving in a group at Pittsburgh International airport with transportation to and from the airport at the beginning and conclusion of each semester [as requested], as well as providing assistance in securing adequate living facilities for all Bermuda Scholarship recipients during their period of study.
