Regiment To Hold Enlistment Night This Evening

November 19, 2015

The Royal Bermuda Regiment [RBR] will tonight [Nov 19] hold a special enlistment night for soldiers.

But RBR Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Michael Foster-Brown said that anyone interested in serving the country would be welcome to attend to learn more about life in the Island’s armed force.

Col Foster-Brown said: “There will be briefing and presentation to potential recruits so they can find out more about the Regiment.

“People who then want to enlist will fill in some documentation, have a medical exam and be sworn into the Royal Bermuda Regiment.”

He added: “The night is primarily aimed at volunteers, but anyone who has come up in the ballot and has yet to go through the enlistment process and has not asked for a deferment or exemption must attend also otherwise they will be listed as a non-attender.

“Anyone else who has been balloted and not been through this process must do so otherwise they will be listed as a non-attender.”

And Col Foster-Brown said: “Coming to Warwick Camp does not mean people have to join the Regiment, but we offer adventure, travel, personal development and good pay – and we also provide a valuable service to the country.

“People can come along, find out more and then – if they wish – take the next step to enlist and sign up for Recruit Camp next January.”

The Warwick Camp enlistment night starts at 6pm, but Col Foster-Brown said that alternative arrangements are possible for potential volunteers who cannot make the start time and that they should contact the Regiment on 238 1045.

Col Foster-Brown said: “Because more people are choosing to serve and the retention rate has increased, we are reducing this year’s Recruit Camp to 60 people.

“I’m delighted soldiers who try the Regiment find their service rewarding and this is reflected in increased retention rates.

“This means we can reduce the required inflow and there is a realistic prospect that, if we can repeat the record numbers who volunteered last year, that the next Recruit Camp may be all-volunteer.”
