U.S. Consulate Nights At Library: Entrepreneurs
The U.S. Consulate and the Adult Library will continue the Bermuda National Library’s regular Consulate Night at the Library series in November with screenings of both parts of “The Entrepreneurs.”
The Adult Library will screen Part 1: Feed Granola and Spanx Shapeware on November 18 at 6:00 p.m. and Part 2: TOMS Shoes and Frontera Foods on November 23 at 6:00 p.m. These movies provide inspiration on building a thriving company.
Part 1 [43 minutes] explains how Jason Osborn and Jason Wright turned Feed Granola into a hot brand and household name in less than two years and how Sara Blakely of Spanx was successful in updating the old-fashioned girdle despite years of rejection from financiers and manufacturers.
Part 2 [43 minutes] looks at how Blake Mycoskie of TOMS Shoes created a company that donates one pair of shoes for every pair sold and how celebrity chef Rick Bayless and entrepreneurial wizard Manuel Valdes of Frontera Foods were able to promote Mexican cuisine and build a hugely successful brand identity.
U.S. Consul General Mary Ellen Koenig as well as Mr. William Spriggs and Ms. Lucrecia Ming from the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] will be present to help lead discussion and answer questions on both occasions.
Consul General Koenig, commented, “Mr. Spriggs and Ms. Ming have the proven expertise to help put the lessons learned from the experiences of these entrepreneurs into a Bermuda context.
“I would also note that anyone interested in borrowing the films should contact the U.S. Consulate at blackac@state.gov. My appreciation goes to Head Librarian C. Joanne Brangman for partnering with the Consulate to host these regular gatherings.”
