Philip Butterfield To Retire As HSBC Chairman
HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited announced that Philip Butterfield will retire as Chairman of the Board of HSBC Bermuda, effective 31 December, 2015.
Current Bank Director Tony Joaquin, has been appointed Chairman of HSBC Bermuda to succeed Philip Butterfield, effective 31 December, 2015.
With a career in the banking industry that has spanned over 40 years, Mr. Butterfield joined HSBC Bermuda in 2000 as Chief Administration Officer. He was subsequently appointed Chief Operating Officer in 2001, Chief Executive Officer and Director in February 2004 and following his retirement as CEO in May 2012, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of HSBC Bermuda.
Mr. Joaquin has served as a Director since 2005 and is a retired Managing Partner of Ernst & Young. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bermuda.
On the subject of his retirement, Mr. Butterfield had this to say, “It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve over the past 15 years as both CEO and subsequently Chairman of the Board. My tenure at the Bank has proven to be both challenging and exceptionally rewarding to me, professionally and personally. I leave feeling extremely proud of how the Bank has evolved during this period.”
“I have known Tony for a number of years and I am very confident that under his leadership, the Board will continue to offer the appropriate level of guidance and support to HSBC Bermuda’s Executive Management Team as they aim to provide the best customer service possible. I wish him the very best.”
