BIFF Announce 2016 Special Events Programme
The Bermuda International Film Festival [BIFF] announced the programme of events that will form part of this year’s film festival.
BIFF Masterclass: The Producer’s Retrospective
Sunday, March 6, 10am-2pm @BUEI
Highly experienced and respected independent film producer, Christine Vachon, returns to BIFF to present a Masterclass after her inaugural appearance for jury duty in 2015. As co-founder and co-head of Killer Films, Christine is responsible for a long list of award-winning projects including Still Alice, for which lead actress Julianne Moore won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award and a BAFTA. Her most recent project, Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara was nominated for six Oscars this year. Christine will uncover the art of film production from concept to big screen.
BIFF Live Talk: From Real Life to Film Reel
Monday, March 7, 5-5.45pm @ Bermuda National Gallery
Celebrated sports journalist David Walsh, who was instrumental in uncovering the doping program of Lance Armstrong and the US Postal Service Cycling Team, talks about the process of turning his book about this subject into a feature film, The Program. The film screening at BIFF on Sunday, March 6, is directed by Academy award nominated Stephen Frears [Philomena, The Queen] and stars Ben Foster, Chris O’Dowd and Dustin Hoffman. This talk will be moderated by Susanne Notman
BIFF Live Talk: The Short Circuit
Tuesday, March 8, 5-5.45pm @ Bermuda National Gallery
Several of the visiting film directors with works competing in BIFF’s Global Shorts competition will discuss their craft. Bermudian filmmaker Bayard Outerbridge will talk to Helen O’Hanlon [How to be a Villain], Frederic Lumiere [Lady Ganga: Nilza’s Story] and Keola Racela [Two Sisters].
BIFF Live Talk: The Dynamics of Documentary
Wednesday, March 9, 5-5.45pm @ Bermuda National Gallery
Director Nick Read unpicks the process of making the documentary Bolshoi Babylon, one BIFF’s World Cinema features, showing shortly after the talk at 6pm. The Bolshoi is a world famous Russian ballet theatre with a story to tell and Nick was given unique access to record the 2013/14 season both in front of and back stage. Nick will also talk about the past documentaries that have formed his career to date. This Live Talk will be moderated by BIFF PR Director and fellow Brit, Alison Hicks.
Producer Peter Raymont of Guantanamo’s Child: Omar Khadr; along with Tia Lessin and Carl Deal, producers of Michael Moore’s Where To Invade Next will also be on island for the festival.
