Court: Man Admits Stealing $9.49 Of Food

Appearing in Magistrates Court this morning [Feb 11], a 54-year-old man admitted stealing $9.49 worth of food from a Marketplace, saying he took it because he was hungry.

Mr Levi Pemberton pleaded guilty to stealing $9.49 worth of prepared food from Marketplace on 15th January 2016.

Given the opportunity to speak for himself, Mr Pemberton told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “I did not leave the place. I was concealing the food to eat there.”

Earlier, the Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that Mr Pemberton had told police investigators: “I took it because I was hungry.”

Mr Pemberton told the Magistrate that he was unemployed and was hustling.

The Magistrate fined him $100 and gave him eight days to pay the fine or do ten days in prison in default.
