ADHT Louis ‘Kid’ Corbin Golf Tournament Held

The African Diaspora Heritage Trail Bermuda Foundation [ADHT] held the Louis ‘Kid’ Corbin Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday [March 26] at Ocean View Golf Club, with ‘Alora & Frank Rabain’s Team’ taking first place.

A spokesperson said, “The Louis ‘Kid Corbin Memorial golf tournament is now in the history books. In honour of Mr. Corbin and other golfers of his era, each of the 11 team teams was named after a golfer of the era.

“Team names included the Alora & Frank Rabain team, which was captained by Katyna Rabain, daughter of Alora and Frank Rabain; the George  & Earl Lowe team, which was captained by Genevieve Bradley, great granddaughter of George Lowe, founder of the Ocean View Golf Club and the Louis ‘Kid’ Corbin team captained by John Richardson, cousin of Louis ‘Kid’ Corbin.”

First place team ‘Alora & Frank Rabain’ with Kim Swan, Dakota Lamb, Katyna Rabain, & Frankie Furbert:

“The spirit of the trailblazers was evident as the scores were very competitive, probably spurned on by the participation of the many family members from the trailblazers who played in the tournament.  Also in attendance at the tournament were Canterbury Corbin and George Dowling who are both descendants of the Corbin family.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the contribution of Louis Rafael ‘Kid’ Corbin and note that he is mentioned three times in the book Forbidden Fairways which tells the history of the fight of African American golfers to establish themselves in the golfing world.”
