March 9, 2016

One hundred players will take part in next week’s Digicel Bermuda National Squash Championships with current world #189 Micah Franklin keen to regain the title he last won in 2014.

The strong Men’s Open event — which is an official PSA World Ranking Tournament — features for the first time in many years two full time touring pro players in Franklin and new addition Noah Browne who just recently announced his pro player ambitions.

The field also contains reigning champion and 9 time winner Patrick Foster, Court House pro and former pro player Kristen Johnson, US College players now based back in Bermuda Robbie Maycock and Kristian Muldoon.

The National Squash Championships, now in its 9th year of partnership with Digicel, also includes the Ladies Championships headed by BSRA Club Champion and favorite for the title Rachel Barnes. Barnes will have to come through a strong field featuring past champion Laura Robinson and training partner Susie Lacey.

In the Veterans events top seeds Murray Brewer and Denise Kyme will both be looking to retain their 2015 titles in the Men’s and Ladies events respectively.

Brewer leads a record entry in the Men’s event, whilst Kyme will have to face a familiar challenge from Christine Barnes who is making a tournament comeback after a string of injuries.

The event begins Sunday March 13, with all matches hosted at the BSRA. Entrance is free to all rounds including the semifinals on Thursday March 17 and the finals on March 18.
