Prize Presentation Held For Pee Wee Cricket
On Saturday, March 19th, the five week long 2016 Tokio Millennium Re Pee Wee “Have-a-go” Cricket finished with the Pee Wee’s playing a game against their parents followed by a prize presentation.
During the course of the program children received a free introduction to cricket in a fun and safe environment. With at least nine qualified coaches and five volunteers per session the children were able to receive personalised attention to focus on their game.
Chairman of the Tokio Millennium Re Donations Committee, William Randolph stated, “Tokio Millennium Re is very proud to be able to partner with the Bermuda Cricket Board to provide youth cricket opportunities at no charge for our young boys and girls.
“Tokio Millennium Re actively promotes healthy lifestyles in our community and this includes programs such as the Pee-Wee cricket that is well organised, structured and fun.”
Mr. Lloyd Fray, President of the BCB stated, “This year the Pee Wee program was once again fully subscribed with a total of 122 children registered. The Pee Wee program is the foundation of our performance pathway that introduces the basics of cricket to 5 to 7 year olds.
“I was pleased to note that we had a record number of parents [44] participate in the parent coaching course. On the last day, 58 parents competed against the children in the annual kids v parents challenge.”
“I would like to thank Tokio Millennium Re who share our strong focus of bettering the lives of Bermuda’s youth through sports. Due to their continued support we were once again able to offer this program free making it accessible to all.
“I would also like to thank all the coaches and National Academy players who volunteered their time providing coaching and peer leadership, some of who, including Leilanni Nesbeth, started in the Pee Wee program!
“I look forward to watching these young players move on to play in the Tokio Millennium Re 8&Under League which starts Saturday 9 April at the National Sports Centre.”
I will agree, it was well structured and organized. Kudos to Clay and his team of coaches and volunteers.
Thank you BCB and Tokio Re! Yet again the Pee Wee cricket was well run and great fun for my son. Amazing to think it was all offered for free and so many children were able to benefit. I was very impressed with the number of coaches for each session. Very inspirational for the youngest children to be taught by Bermuda’s elite youth cricketers. Thank you to all involved!
