Business Continuity Management Roundtable
On April 18, the IRM Bermuda Chapter, the regional group of London-based Institute of Risk Management, hosted a Business Continuity Management Roundtable at the offices of Zurich, Bermuda.
The group will also hold a webinar on the topic of ‘Cyber and Data Security’ at Deloitte on May 5.
A spokesperson said, “The roundtable featured Bermuda’s National Disaster Coordinator, Inspector Steve Cosham, as the guest presenter and nineteen risk professionals including Chief Risk Officers and Chief Operating Officers from the finance and [re]insurance sectors in Bermuda.
“The interactive discussion started with an introduction by Mr. Cosham followed by very informative dialogue amongst the participants where different approaches to business continuity management were discussed.
“During Mr. Cosham’s introduction, he highlighted that the National Disaster Coordinator role was created after Bermuda was struck by consecutive Hurricanes Fay and Gonzalo in 2014. In addition to this role, Mr. Cosham also serves as National Events Planning Coordinator as well as EMO Coordinator.
“He highlighted the various National Plans that Bermuda is currently reviewing including hurricane, pandemics, oil spills, cruise ship incidents, air crashes and tsunami. Inspector Cosham conducted a National Tsunami exercise for the Bermuda Government earlier this month which was sponsored by the IRM.
“On the National Event Coordination side, he spoke of the America’s Cup taking place over a month’s period between end of May and June in 2017 and the period and the logistics of having various other sailing regattas taking place during the same period.
“Cosham spoke of the ever gaining popularity of Heroes Weekend and stressed it is something that must be considered closely as all services will be stretched to the max during this period.
“It is established that it is the hope and intention that the international business sector through the IRM Bermuda Chapter can use their expertise to assist Bermuda in these various national disaster efforts.
