Dog Club Donates To Six Charities After Ag Show
Charity fundraising by members of the Dog Training Club of Bermuda [DTC] has resulted in the giving of $6,500 to local causes, thanks to two agility competitions held at the Ag Show.
In all, the SPCA received $1,500, $1,000 was won for the Agricultural Exhibition, the Bermuda Sloop Foundation received $500, and an additional $500 was won for WindReach.
A spokesperson said, “At the recent Agricultural Exhibition members of the DTC held two agility competitions on Thursday and Saturday. Six teams, made up of DTC members and their dogs, raised funds and then competed against each other to determine which of their chosen charities would receive the most money based on combined points scored over two days.
“The Bermuda Zoological Society received $2,500, won for them by a team consisting of the two oldest dogs, Ace who is twelve and Tess who is ten and their handlers Mara Zanfagna and Douglas Mello, who earned a combined 312 points.”
Top winners Mara Zanfagna with Ace, Douglas Mello with Tess, Sharon Vesey with Roo, Janice Moran with Kiri, and John Hirschi and Fleur:
“The SPCA received $1,500 as the result of 309 points scored by Cupid & Douglas Mello and Roo & Sharon Vesey, .
“$1000 was won for the Agricultural Exhibition by Fleur & John Hirschi and Kiri & Janice Moran, who scored 305 points.
“The Bermuda Sloop Foundation received $500, won for them by the efforts of Bella & Cathy Gosling and Puck & Janice Moran with 293 points.
“$500 was won for WindReach by Izzy & Sharon Vesey and Looney & Geralyn Counsell with 260 points.”
“And finally, the Bermuda Equestrian Federation received $500, earned for them by Bindi & Cathy Gosling and Dai & Mara Zanfagna with 238 points.
“It was an exciting event which showcased some of the fastest dogs in Bermuda’s dog agility world and was made possible by the generous donation of help and time from many DTC members, all of whom are volunteers.
“The Dog Training Club of Bermuda offers offers life skills classes, hosts training seminars and Bermuda Kennel Club licensed obedience & agility trials. The DTC supports reward based training that is effective and fun.”
