Island Companies Ready To Launch 4G LTE

April 18, 2016

Both CellOne and Digicel are preparing to launch their 4G LTE networks to island customers, with CellOne set to roll the service out, and Digicel saying that “a full LTE announcement will be forthcoming” regarding their roll-out of a 4G LTE network.

A CellOne spokesperson said, “CellOne is the first wireless company to launch 4G LTE in Bermuda, representing a huge investment in technological infrastructure to keep Bermuda current with global networks.

“4G LTE offers super-fast speeds, with a noticeable difference over 3G; just as our advertising campaign states, there’s a lot of technical jargon that can be used to explain 4G LTE technology – however, we understand that customers will be most interested in the speed, and we’re fine with that.

“CellOne is launching in the City of Hamilton first, with plans to roll out to the rest of Bermuda. In anticipation of the launch, we’re getting customers ready by providing 4G LTE SIM cards for compatible devices.

“CellOne has the widest range of smartphones, most of which are 4G LTE compatible. For example, customers know that we’re the only wireless carrier authorized to sell iPhones, and will be pleased to hear that our stock is 4G LTE ready. 4G LTE capable smartphones have been tagged on our website for easy identification.

“Customers wanting to know whether their device is 4G LTE compatible and/or if they need a new SIM card can visit the website; alternatively, we’re always happy to welcome our customers at our stores to help out in person.”

A Digicel spokesperson said, “Digicel can confirm that they are committed to continuing to provide the best network in Bermuda for data speeds and that includes an island wide rollout of 4G LTE.

“Digicel customers today benefit from our enhanced 4G network providing 99.9% coverage, average download speeds of 3.65Mbps and upload speeds of 0.7Mbps.

“Those speeds were verified 24% and 52% faster respectively than the alternative provider by the independent speed test conducted by Yupana in December 2015. A full LTE announcement will be forthcoming when we are able to provide details of access for all customers rather than a few in select areas.

“Today, all customers joining Digicel on our Postpaid Smartphone plans can also benefit from “All the data they need” with our exclusive three-month Data Test Drive too.”

  1. Whatever says:

Whats the point? We will still be getting 2G speed, but paying for a 4G plan…

  2. Lol says:

This is an absolute joke. They have been implemented this network in the US for years at a very low cost. All this is going to do is give them more reason to keep ripping customers off by charging high prices for crappy service. So tired of this island’s ridiculous bloated prices is why I left. I get unlimited EVERYTHING for $60 a month and if I want unlimited long distance it’s an extra $10 a month. Bermuda is turning into a big expensive joke for the regular working man

    • wondering says:

the Regulatory Authority should be sacked – they allow for unscrupulous business tactics employed by companies that KNOW that they can implement outdated technology into the Bermuda market as if it is Brand New!!!

      Joke isn’t the word.

Talking about it is [quote]“representing a huge investment in technological infrastructure to keep Bermuda current with global networks.”[quote]

    • Aware says:

Presumably wherever you now live you pay income tax?

  3. Judas says:

Still behind the times was just recently in canada and they had speeds of 5g. Bermuda always a behind the times.

    • Full Fuulish says:

Apples and Oranges friend. Canada may as well be a different planet compared to Bermuda! It may be cold out here most of the year but I sure do enjoy living in the real world!

    • What?? says:

I’m very curious about the 5G service you found in Canada. As far as I know 5G is still a few years away. Anywhere.

  4. I heart 441 says:

I understand everyone complaints, but keep in mind people, this is Bermuda, not NYC/Toronto/London for example. We don’t have the same compatible infrastructure as those major cities.

I do find it appalling that they are just bringing out 4G when many modern cities are soon to establish 5G. Cellone/ Digicel, should wait until 5G can be put in place.

  5. hard at work says:

I don’t care how many G’s they give us, I would just like to get decent cell service across the island! I get tired of constantly being dropped from the network!

  6. Micro says:

I’d just like to be able to use my phone inside my house.

  7. frank says:

volte is ment to be used for voice and data all they are going to do is use it for data and have you talking on 3g yes 3 g cause they don’t truly give you 4g
also they rip you off by forcing you to take a data plan
data accounts for most of your cell bill
they will offer you what looks like a good price on the phone but only
if you take a certain data plan bs

    • I heart 441 says:

You don’t have to take the data plan, that’s optional I believe. Unless you are getting a phone from them, instead of buying it from an outside source.

  8. UmJustSayiing says:

Snail mail is faster than the lack of speed we’re getting.
