The-Queen-genericThis year the Queen’s Birthday Party will be held at Government House on Thursday, 9 June between 6 and 8 pm, and the Governor and Mrs Fergusson are inviting anyone interested in attending this event to complete the online entry form, the link for which can be found on the Government House webpage and FaceBook page.

The link will be active from noon on Tuesday, 19 April until noon on Monday, 2 May 2016.

Government House first opened up the process for obtaining an invitation to the Queen’s Birthday Party last year, and they said the “enthusiastic response” received from the general public was a deciding factor in the return of the process for this year’s event.

The Governor said, “Last year we decided to open up the Queen’s Birthday Party to a far wider range of the community than in previous years. Those who were successful in their applications were excited to have the opportunity to attend the Queen’s Birthday Party and we were very pleased to be able to share this special event with them.

“We are again inviting anyone who would like to attend this year’s Queen Birthday Party to complete the online entry form. Sadly, the numbers can’t be unlimited but we shall make a good proportion of invitations available to those applying.

“By tradition, a number of senior public officers and members of the Houses of the Legislature and Judiciary are invited. This will be an occasion to enjoy the Gardens of Government House, and the Band of the Bermuda Regiment

“This year’s Queen’s Birthday Party will not only celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen but also be special for my wife and me as it will be our last in Bermuda.”

The Queen’s Birthday Party is scheduled to be held on Thursday, 9 June 2016, and will celebrate the 90th birthday of Her Majesty The Queen.

The ballot opens at 12 noon on Tuesday, 19 April 2016 and will close at 12 noon on Monday, 2 May 2016. 200 people will be selected at random from the online entries to attend the Queen’s Birthday Party.

People entering are required to be 18 and over. More information on the Terms and Conditions relating to the process for obtaining an invitation and the link to the online entry form will be available on the Government House website and FaceBook page.

Just a shame we still don’t celebrate the Queens Birthday with a holiday. Why? Because it was different, we stood out.

Now we have some faceless ‘Heroes Day’, except we can’t seem to find any heroes, and we denegrate ourselves with some fake caribbean carnival where people strip on Front St.

I think we can do better.

Mental slavery runs deep…that’s why we can’t seem to uplift our own role model Bermudians and instead want to celebrate some lady who does nothing for us…
