Written Warning Issued After Spill Into Harbour

April 21, 2016

Following a report of a “grey water discharge” on April 11, an investigation revealed that the spill was the “result of paint washing of a building” on Front Street, and a written warning was issued to the offending party.

A Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre spokesperson said, “Cruise ship ‘Seven Seas Mariner’ berthed alongside Hamilton 5&6, contacts the Duty Officer at Bermuda Radio to report a grey water discharge in area which is not emanating from ship.

“Bermuda Radio requests photos from ship vantage point while also contacting the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for additional onsite inspection.

“Subsequent investigations revealed that the spill was the result of paint washing of a building on Front Street, with a written warning since issued to the offending party.”

Written warning ! Where is the big fine ?

  2. Kathy says:

When you say “washed off” was it in the rain? Or, was the paint dumped down the drain?

Illegal dumping REQUIRES a fine EVERY TIME! We cannot allow anyone to get away with something that they already KNOW is a health and environmental hazard….

Thank you, Seven Seas, for notifying the authorities!!!

Paint washing? or was it power washing the paint on the building ?
