Premier’s Visit To Azores & NY Cost $13,253
A trip in May 2016 by Premier Michael Dunkley to Azores and New York cost $13,253.15, according to a recent listing on the Government’s travel webpage.
The trip duration was listed as from Monday, May 02, 2016 – Monday, May 09, 2016, and the web page listing said, “The Premier of Bermuda made an official visit to the Azores, at the invitation of the President of the Government of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, Vasco Alves Cordeiro 2nd through 5th May. Following that visit, the Premier journeyed to New York City to participate in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series Races.
“While in the Azores the Premier signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Azores and Bermuda for cooperation in social, cultural and educational pursuits and visited a number of energy, educational, agricultural and historic sites.

“In New York the Premier joined others from Bermuda to showcase Bermuda’s readiness to host the finals of the America’s Cup in 2017. During the closing ceremonies, Minister Gibbons presented medals to the runners-up while the Premier presented the winners’ trophy.
“The Premier was accompanied to the Azores by the Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, the Hon. Trevor Moniz, the Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Derrick Binns and the Director of Bermuda’s London Office Ms. Kimberley Durrant.
“In New York the Premier was accompanied by the Minister of Economic Development Dr. Grant Gibbons and the Secretary to the Cabinet, Dr. Derrick Binns.”

The Premier and other ministers are held accountable by the public for their travel expenses however when the BTA director’s party and travel their is no public accountability. The BTA directors should be held to the same expense account standard and accountability as the Premier and other ministers.
