AXIS Squash Challenge Matches On June 25

June 19, 2016

The Bermuda Squash Racquets Association will host the annual AXIS Squash Challenge & Pro Exhibition for the eighth consecutive year, with two exhibition matches scheduled for Saturday, June 25.

The challenge is a four day, 16 team tournament where all 16 teams play-off on all four days for the title of AXIS Champion. The teams are comprised of four players each, all with individual handicaps to level out the standards and provide the best competition possible.

New for 2016 is the AXIS Junior Challenge running the same format and being held after school for kids only. Both the adult and team events are both fully sold out with a maximum of 96 players taking part.

A spokesperson said, “Every year the Challenge has culminated in a Pro Exhibition featuring Legends of the game such as Peter Nicol, John White and Amr Shabana to name a few. This year is no different with two exhibition matches scheduled for Saturday June 25.

“Micah Franklin, Bermuda National Champion and current world #173 will take on fellow Bermudian Noah Browne, current world number 287 in the opening match of the night which will be a replay of the 2016 Bermuda National Finals.”

Ramy Ashour Bermuda June 14 2016

“The main match of the evening will be between triple World Champion and former World #1 Ramy Ashour of Egypt against Ryan Cuskelly the World #16 from Australia.

“Squash stars don’t come much bigger than the mercurial Ramy Ashour known on the PSA World Tour as “The Artist” for his amazing skills and ability to return impossible shots from impossible positions on the court.”

The BSRA Director of Squash said, “We are all really excited for the exhibition night both to see out young Bermudians Pro’s on the big stage and for the chance to see a star like Ramy here on the Bermuda courts. The event looks like it’s lining up to be a big success as always and will be topped off with a fantastic night of squash with the pros.”

“Australian Ryan Cuskelly has had a stellar season jumping into the World’s top 16 through his 8 career PSA World Tour titles and a semifinals appearance at the Qatar Classic.”

Mr. Cuskelly said, “I’m so glad to get the chance to come back to beautiful Bermuda, meet the players and kids here and have the opportunity to get on court with Ramy again. It’s going to be a classic”

Tickets for the exhibition night are on sale at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association and cost $50. For more information, visit the website or contact Patrick Foster on 292-6881 or at patrickf@bermudasquash.com.
