BPS: 28-Year-Old Man Stabbed At Warwick Camp

June 13, 2016

[Updated] A 28-year-old man is listed in serious condition in the ICU following a stabbing early yesterday, and the police initially said it took place in Warwick, however today the police said details “are emerging that suggest the incident took place at Warwick Camp in the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Corporal’s Mess.”

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service responded to a report of an incident that took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Warwick, that resulted in a 28-year-old man being taken to the hospital with stab wounds to his abdomen.

“Details now are emerging that suggest the incident took place at Warwick Camp in the Royal Bermuda Regiment’s Corporal’s Mess. The 28-year-old man is presently in the hospital’s ICU where he is listed in serious condition.

“The Bermuda Police Service is currently liaising with the Royal Bermuda Regiment on this matter and police are appealing to anyone who may have been at Warwick Camp or specifically the Corporal’s Mess during the time of the incident to please contact CID on 295-0011.”

Update 12.27pm:
The Royal Bermuda Regiment confirmed that an “alleged assault by a civilian on a serving soldier took place in the Corporal’s Mess at Warwick Camp in the early hours of Sunday morning.”

The RBR said, “The Royal Bermuda Regiment is committed to openness and transparency.

“We are cooperating fully with the police investigation into the incident and it would be inappropriate to comment further.

“We can say, however, in general terms, that the Regiment demands the highest standards of personal conduct in all its messes, from soldiers and from guests.

“Any failure to meet these standards will be dealt with severely, under both criminal and, where appropriate, military law.”

  10. mmm says:

Violence occurs in every parish, the fact that it was at a military establi shment has resulted in very limited exposure to the general public. There really isn,t much more that can be said anyway. Of course we would like to know that all weapons are quite secure and accounted for, and that the culprit is known to the authorities.

Don’t guests to the Corporal’s Mess who are not a soldier have to sign in as a guest in the Corporal’s Mess logbook?
