BPW Holds Executive Committee Elections
The Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda [BPW Bermuda] recently held its Annual General Meeting, where the 2016/2017 Executive Committee was elected by the members.
A spokesperson said, “BPW Bermuda is the local chapter of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women.
“The organization’s aims are to develop women’s professional and leadership potential at all levels, with the determination that efforts will lead to equal participation of women and men in power and decision-making roles.
“BPW’s current membership ranges from age 25 and upwards. The Young Business and Professional Women’s [YBPW] group is a forum for young professional women to connect and network.
“The newly constituted Executive Committee comprises a diverse group of women from an array of professional and educational backgrounds.
The slate of officers is President – Kimberley D. Caines; 1st Vice-President – Surlena Smith; 2nd Vice-President – Katie Partington Howarth; Treasurer – Tawana Flood; Secretary – Alicia Botelho; YBPW Chair – Diana Darrell; Archivist – Ghislaine Lemay; and Scholarship Chair – Lauren Bell.
President Kimberley D. Caines said, “BPW Bermuda just celebrated its 40th anniversary here in Bermuda. This is an exciting time to build on the foundations of our past and tackle real issues facing working women presently. Issues like equal pay and women on boards continue to be a focus for BPW International and our Bermuda chapter.
“BPW is unique as it is one of the only local women’s organizations with an international presence. Just in this past year I attended our regional conference in Grand Cayman.
“Two other members, Katie Partington Howarth and Diana Darrell attended a leadership summit in New York held in conjunction with the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women: the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
“During these conferences, we have the opportunity to liaise and network with women across the globe to help understand policies and programs that really work; this is the appeal of an organization like BPW.
“Ms. Caines went on to say that women from all professional backgrounds and ages are welcomed to join.”
