Premier To Participate In Newport Race Events
The Cabinet Office advised that Premier Michael Dunkley will be participating in the events surrounding the Newport to Bermuda Race in Rhode Island this week.
“The Newport to Bermuda Race officially starts on June 17th. And in the lead up to the race the Premier will join members of the Bermuda Tourism Authority and others local organisations in highlighting Bermuda’s support of this historical maritime event,” the Cabinet Office said.

“While in Newport, Premier Dunkley will have a courtesy meeting with representatives of the Mayor of Newport’s Office; he will be a guest at the traditional Newport to Bermuda Race’s Commodore’s Dinner; and he will participate in the inspection of the Bermuda boats racing in the event, including the Spirit of Bermuda.
”Residents will be aware that the 635-mile biennial Newport Bermuda Race is the oldest regularly scheduled ocean race, one of very few international distance races, and [with the Transpac Race] one of just two of the world’s regularly scheduled races held almost entirely out of sight of land. Founded in 1906, the Bermuda Race is held for the 50th time in 2016.
“This year’s event is expected to be the third largest in the race’s history, with approximately 190 boats. The race attracts sailors from across North America and the globe, with recent entries from Russia, Britain, and China.
“The Premier returns to Island Thursday, June 16.”
I trust he is on the boat entry vote Yes-Yes!
