BPS: Traffic Moving ‘Very Slowly’ In Paget Area

June 13, 2016

The police have advised that traffic is “moving very slowly” in the Warwick and Paget areas this morning [June 13], adding that “presently very few people are using Harbour Road causing major delays.”

This follows after the extensive traffic delays in Paget on Saturday, which were caused by a road closure on Harbour Road due to a property having its roof removed.

A police spokesperson said, “Please be advised, traffic is moving very slowly in the Warwick and Paget areas of Middle Road and South Road going into the City of Hamilton.

“Police would like to remind the public that Harbour Road is open and traffic from the Lower Ferry area will be manned by a traffic light.

“Presently very few people are using Harbour Road causing major delays.”

This couldn’t be delayed for 2 weeks until school is out and there is much less traffic on the roads? Because the roof collapse all of a sudden is imminent? Poor planning and everyone pays…..

  2. Commodore JB of BBIRYC says:

When you are as rich as me you can commute by boat every day. With each commute I stop for a miles coffee. Sometimes I commute from BBIRYC to Miles at least 13 times a day. That’s $100 in fuel and $26 in coffee every day.

Well BPS…if you had let people know yesterday that Harbor Road would be open this morning…this wouldn’t of happened…DUH!!!Who’s running the show!?

    • Rose says:

Bernews did let people know on Saturday evening that Harbour Road would be open starting Sunday afternoon with one lane of traffic and stop lights.

      • Paula says:

It’s a real shame there was no notification before Saturday or even on Saturday that Harbour Road would be/was closed. It was pure madness on Saturday!

  4. Rose says:

I went Middle Road this morning and traffic was backup from Belmont. At first I thought it was Warwick Academy parents slowing down the movement, when I drove past the school I realized no one was using Harbour Road. I saw that long line of traffic and went down Cobbs Hill, was in town in 15 minutes. It worked to my advantage.

People are saying the notice was in the RG last week and on Friday’s evening news but more people read Bernews than the traditional newspaper.

Awaiting the Press release from Alaska Hall blaming the OBA…

    • tank says:

Well, it any complaints should be directed to the Ministry of Works and Engineering led by Mr. Cannonier as it was approved by him.

  6. innna says:

Its the OBA’s fault clearly…. did anyone see who was working on the job. Not one Bermudian???? All foreigners taking jobs from underpaid and overworked Bermudians…. Bermudians would have taken the extra 3 days get the job done and harbor road would still be closed…. typical OBA scheming against the common man

    • Llola says:

      You ate very very incorrect.
      Bermudians everywhere on tbat job.
      Tut tut
      Time to ket it go.

  7. Bill A says:

The Saturday Bernews article stated ““Traffic will be under traffic signal control during non-peak traffic times and will be under STOP and GO boards during peak traffic”, which is much more efficient. Yet a friend went through at 8:30 this morning and said the lights were operating, not the boards. WHY NOT?

    • Expat says:

I was there at 8:15 this morning and they were using the stop and go boards…

  8. poor home management says:

this amounts to poor home maintenance management. This is not something that happened over night and for the whole country to suffer because of a roof issue that was not managed over the years is a travesty .

I could understand after a storm, or hurricane but no matter how you slice it, it was a poorly managed PERSONAL home issue that now has become a national issue.

    • I heart 441 says:

Smh, National issue…meanwhile in other parts of the world, people are fighting for clean drinking water and fresh air!

    • Llola says:

This was result of hurricane damage, not maneageable.. Blame blame blame
      Bda national past time!!

  9. RebeLutionary says:

This is so stupid. If one lane is indeed open on Harbour Rd why not just have one way traffic during rush hours?

  10. Let there be hope says:

Why can’t they make Harbour road one way coming into town in the mornings and one way out of town in the evenings.

    • Toodle-oo says:

An alternative idea that will keep both lanes on Harbour Road running freely all the time is to shut down Strawberry Hill from 7.30-9am and 4-6pm during week days . That way all the people who VOLUNTARILY use Strawberry Hill when they don’t have to won’t have all the stupid jerks (illegally) stopping to let them out , thus causing huge disruptions in the traffic flow all the way to the North Roundabout and as far west as Darrell’s Wharf .
Also ban everything larger than a class C car on the Eastern section of Harbour Road so people aren’t always coming to a crawl when a larger vehicle is approaching in the wrong lane from the opposite direction because they’re plainly too large to stay in their own already too narrow lane.

    • format says:

Call W&E Highways and suggest it. They are seriously understaffed in that department, so would always welcome helpful input from the public 295-5151

      • Ann says:

Oh please don’t pull the understaffed card, pull some of your over staffed and under qualified workers from the office, they could use some exercise!
