BCL Supports High School Sloop Experience
Bermuda Container Line Ltd [BCL] says that it is “pleased” to support the Bermuda High School’s sloop expedition, with a donation of $6,600 allowing Year 9 students a hands-on maritime learning opportunity outside the classroom.
A spokesperson said, “In the interest of instilling an awareness of the sea and of Bermuda’s maritime heritage, Bermuda Container Line has committed to supporting three of the islands schools in the Sloop Foundation Experience which sees middle school students go on a five-day voyage during the academic year.”
Head of School Linda Parker said, “BHS students are successful at whatever they choose to do with their lives and BCL’s donation helps us offer, not only a balanced curriculum, but also lifetime memories, team building skills and experiences outside of the classroom walls.
“These experiences challenge and aid each student to meet and surpass their full potential. With 40% of our Secondary Students receiving tuition assistance, BCL’s support is truly helpful to the success of BHS in fulfilling its mission.”

Year 9 student Natalie said, “I had never sailed before, so I learned how to put up, take down and work sails. Overall, I learned a greater sense of how important teamwork is and how valuable every person is, no matter how strong or fast they are.”
