Bermuda Wins Two Gold Medals In St Lucia
Bermuda’s Alyssa Rowse and Kaden Hopkins won their categories in the 2016 Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships time trial races in St Lucia.
Rowse finished the 10 kilometer course in a time of 17:13, 2 minutes ahead of the next rider, with an average speed of 34.85 kph on a very hilly course. Hopkins time for the same course was 15:28, 16 seconds ahead of second and third place for an average speed of 38.793 kph.
Today are the road races for both Rowse and Hopkins where Dylan Hill will join Hopkins in the 15-16 category for 62 kilometers while Rowse will contest a 50 kilometer circuit.
BBA president Peter Dunne expressed his pleasure with the results and efforts by saying, “The hard work of Kaden and Alyssa this past year has paid off in a big way today.
“It is extremely satisfying to see them be able to perform at such a high level in this championships and to see the Bermuda flag raised at the medal ceremony today. Tomorrow should be another exciting day for our juniors.”
