BMHF And EAP To Offer Lunch & Learn Sessions
From August 22 – September 21, 2016, the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation will join forces with the Employee Assistance Program to deliver lunch and learn sessions to Bermuda businesses, which will be offered free of charge to businesses who wish to participate.
“The Foundation conducted a school tour last year and determined that it was extremely successful. We were able to discuss healthy coping skills and other topics that surround mental illness with over 3000 students in both the private and public sector,” says spokeswoman, Jodi Lewis for the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation.
“Now we would like to engage the local owned and/or Bermuda based businesses, and what better way is there to do this than to directly go to as many businesses as possible to discuss mental health in the work place.”
The Employee Assistance Program of Bermuda provides direct services including counseling, assessments and consultation along with organizational services, training and resources to employers around the island.
Over the years they have been actively involved with educating employees about mental health in the workplace and they host a workshop yearly to address the topic of mental illness in the work place.
EAP Executive Director Doris Decosta said, “It is estimated that one third of those with mental illnesses are employed.
“Yearly, we conduct a workshop dealing with and recognizing Mental Health in the Workplace to help employers, management staff and employees look at some of the common categories of mental illnesses as well as highlight strategies for supporting employees with mental health issues.
“This year we will also look at aspects of the new legislation regarding mental health in Bermuda and how it may affect the workplace. Our workshop and the tour “Thrive in the Workplace with Mental Health Friendly Workplace Environments will assist employers and management staff to promote positive ways to mental health and well being.”
If you are an employer and would like for your company to participate in the tour please call 292-9000 or e-mail info@eap.bm to sign up today.
Please note signup is first come, first served and you will be assisted a date and time that works with your company’s lunch schedule. To learn more about the Bermuda Mental Health Foundation or the Employee Assistance Program of Bermuda please visit www.bmhf.bm or www.eap.bm.
