Video: Paynter Considers HVAC Industry Career
Teenager, Stephon Paynter, is keen on a career in the HVAC industry after spending just a few weeks as a summer student with Air Care.
The 15-year-old is doing work experience with one of the Island’s leading air conditioning and mechanical services companies as part of a partnership with his school, Impact Mentoring Academy, aimed at helping to train young Bermudians in skills related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
He said the highs after five weeks with the firm had been “working with all the fellas” and “learning how everything works”, adding: “I’m just absorbing all the information I can.”
In his final two weeks, Stephon is hoping to learn about the fire protection systems that Air Care installs and maintains.
Asked if the experience so far made him want to join the industry, Stephon said: “Most definitely. I hope to have a future in this trade.”
Brendan Stones, Air Care’s General Manager, said he was pleased that Stephon was considering a career in the HVACR industry, adding: “This is exactly the point of our partnership with Impact, to expose young Bermudians to the career possibilities and encourage them to join the Industry.
“We struggle to find qualified Bermudians. Yet, as Stephon has communicated during his interviews, working in this field can be very fulfilling. It can also be a well-paid career.”
