EMO Advisory: Causeway, Buses, Ferries & More
[Updated] The Causeway will remain open, the last public bus will be at 9pm, the Royal Bermuda Regiment will deploy personnel around the Island this evening, the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Facility will remain open through the duration of the storm, and the Emergency Broadcast Station [100.1 FM] will be on the air from 10pm until.
This information, and more, was just released following the most recent meeting of the Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO].
A quick look at the pre-storm weather conditions at 3.00pm today:
“It is very important that residents take all necessary precautions, follow the strong advice to remain indoors and off the roads between midnight and 6.00 a.m. tomorrow morning,” Minister of National Security Jeffrey Baron said.
“All necessary preparations have been made by the EMO agencies and any clean-up will begin at the earliest and safest opportunity tomorrow morning.”

The Bermuda Weather Service [BWS] is advising that Bermuda is currently under a Hurricane Watch.
This afternoon the Minister of National Security, Sen. Jeffrey Baron, JP, convened an Emergency Measures Organisation [EMO] to get the latest update on Tropical Storm Karl.
Current BWS reports have TS Karl’s closest point of approach to Bermuda at 50 nautical miles at 4.00 a.m. Saturday morning. And as TS Karl approaches from the southeast, conditions will begin to deteriorate this evening with increasing winds, showers and thunderstorms.
Based on this afternoon’s EMO meeting the public is advised of the following:
- Out of an abundance of caution the EMO is strongly advising residents/motorists to stay off the roads between midnight and 6.00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The EMO has asked that the roads remain clear in order for emergency personnel to conduct their duties safely.
- The Causeway will remain open. Residents can be assured that the Causeway will be continually assessed throughout the night.
- As it relates to public transportation: The last commuter ferry will be at 6.00 p.m. and 6.20 p.m. respectively. And the last public bus will be at 9.00 p.m.
- The Royal Bermuda Regiment will deploy personnel around the Island this evening.
- The Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Facility will remain open through the duration of the storm.
- The Emergency Broadcast Station [100.1 FM] will be on the air from 10.00 p.m. until, and will be providing updates on the hour and half hour.
- The EMO will reconvene a meeting tomorrow following the passage of the storm.
- The public is encouraged to stay tuned to regular updates on FM 100.1 or www.weather.bm, www.gov.bm or via the EMO FaceBook and Twitter platforms.

Update Sept 24, 8am: The EMO said it “it is safe to start moving around with extra caution because there may be loose wires and low hanging branches. There may also be standing water in low lying areas” and “there have been no reports of trees down or power outages.”

According to the Bermuda Weather Service Tropical Storm Karl has begun its turn to the northeast and will be accelerating away from the area. The Hurricane Watch has been discontinued in coordination with the NHC and a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect.
The EMO this morning announced it is safe to start moving around with extra caution because there may be loose wires and low hanging branches. There may also be standing water in low lying areas.
There have been no reports of trees down or power outages.
The Department of Public Transportation is doing a final assessment before the buses start running. Further updates will be issued throughout the day as services return to normal.
“I’d like to thank all those men and women who worked through the night and who were ready to respond to any emergency. Thankfully, there have been no reports of injury or property damage. I also express my thanks to the public for their cooperation and support overnight by staying off the roads and allowing emergency services full access as needed.” said Minister of National Security, Sen.
