Photos: Caines Back To School Extravaganza

[Updated] The Caines Brothers in conjunction with Five Star Barbershop held their fourth annual “Back to School Extravaganza” today [Sept 6] at the St Paul’s Centennial Hall on Court Street , offering free haircuts for boys, free hair braiding for girls, and free school supplies for students.

The event also saw students receive free book bags filled with school supplies, and motivational speakers throughout the day, as well as DJ, games and more.

The theme for the Extravaganza this year was “You are Strong,” which the organizers said “is our way of empowering our students to believe nothing is impossible for them to achieve.”

Businesses and groups sponsoring the event included Platinum Sun Life Financial, Marsh & Mclennan Companies, Hiscox Bermuda, Security Associates, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Bermuda, Sunshine Company, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, St. Pauls’s AME, Especially Yours Laundry, Dunkley’s and Bite.bm.

Update 5.31pm: The Caines Brothers said, “The Caines Brothers and Five Star Barbershop’s Back to School Extravaganza can only be classified as a resounding success with approximately 300 boys and 150 girls being served and over 600 school bags and supplies distributed.

“We would like to thank the 12 volunteer barbers, the 22 hair stylists who braided hair and the 50 volunteers, who without their support and dedicated volunteer-ism, this day would not be have been a success. The commitment shown by the hairstylists and barbers was incredible as many stayed the entire day.

“We would to take this moment to thank the sponsors Platinum Sun Life Financial International and the other sponsors; Security Associates, Marsh & Mclennan Companies, Sunshine Company, Hiscox Bermuda, Deloitte Bermuda, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sonority Incorporated, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Dunkley’s, Especially Yours Laundry, Bite.bm, Next Level Barber Shop, St. Paul’s AME, The Duke of Edinburgh International Award Bermuda, Bliss Hair and Nail Boutique Soul Food Promotions, DJ Fava and Premier Medical.”
