Wed: Bus Trips Cancelled Due To Vandalism

October 26, 2016

[Updated] The Department of Public Transportation said they regret to advise that “as a result of vandalism,” the following bus trips are cancelled today [Oct 26], with the Department providing a list of the bus routes that are cancelled.

Update 4.07pm: The Ministry said, “The Bermuda Police Service has been called in by the Department of Public Transportation [DPT] to investigate the case of theft and vandalism overnight at the St. George Bus Depot that led to cancellations this morning of part of the daily bus service.

“Five buses were broken into and their cash vaults were stolen, together with a quantity of cash. The side-lining of the five buses from this morning’s service led to the cancellation of 10 runs over four routes. The DPT is ascertaining how the service will be affected going forward.”

    • Onion Juice says:

  2. Gabbs says:

Same people that do this, is the same people waiting to catch the bus the next day to take them up the road…….Smh

    • Party of De Problem says:

People don’t do this – animals do.

      • Not so Safe says:

No animals do not do this they are much better behaved.

  3. Mary says:

feel the love Bermuda???? what are way are we raising them,I mean really

  4. TSOL says:

Vandalism huh? More like Tweed didn’t get his work permit renewed.

    • Will-Not-Let-This-Die!! says:

      Fool!!!!

    • Wayne says:

You are just as stupid and ignorant as the thieves. How does Rev Tweed fit into this conversation?….you are part of the problem because it might be YOUR child that broke into the buses

  5. Again says:

SMH Silly youths. The only people you are hurting is your own. Because it’s only YOUR OWN people that uses the buses most. Parents need to take hold of their BRATS!!!! Parents stopped sending their kids to Sunday School and look what has happened. SAD.

    • Onion Juice says:

Youths in America,UK and Canada are doing worst.

      • Sage says:

But at least their grammar far exceeds yours!

        • Toodle-oo says:

It does appear , grammar issues aside , he’s outed himself as knowing how to vote multiple times on a given post

      • aceboy says:

So it’s all good then? The vandalism should continue, you know….because the youth in other countries are worse?

        You are a moron.

  6. cynic says:

Is this one bus or have multiple buses been vandalised?

  7. Sherildeen says:

Lol. Think about it pple. Tweed gets rejected.
    Buses are cancelled. Stay tuned.

    • Sage says:

Yep, just the beginning. Trash not collected yesterday so I’ll be dropping mine of at Union Square.

      • aceboy says:

The YunYun has been very quiet about the recent Tweed matter happenings, I’d suggest you drop it at Alaska Hall, next to mine.

      • Non OBAer says:

I hope someone is there ro toss it right back in your car.

      • drunken ursula says:

no not Union Square take it Reid Street…

    • Factual says:

      Exactly!
Oh wait, so we like expats now and we protest for their right to stay here and get work permit renewals??? I can’t keep up with this! Will someone please tell me if I am supposed to MARCH and STARVE MYSELF this week FOR or AGAINST expats?!
      So confused!

      • JohnBoy says:

It’s so hard to keep up.

      • CanadianGirlinBermy says:

As an expat I’m sickened by your comment.
We EXPATS come to countries such as Bermuda for work.
If the Bermudian people were more willing to take up the jobs at hand maybe not so many expats would come in.
Realize your laws on immigration are one of the top. It’s not easy to enter Bermuda for work. You have to have proper documentation – education and papers behind you.
Be thankful for expats coming into your country. Not only do we add culture to your gorgeous island. We bring tourism with us! For each expat that comes to Bermuda – imagine the amount of people visiting because of them. It’s beneficial for you and your island.
Stop being lazy and start educating yourselves and maybe less expats would need to come and fill the jobs you all refuse to do?!

        • PBanks says:

Um, Canadian, calling a group of people lazy and adopting a bit of a “I’m superior” attitude is more sickening than anything else in this thread so far.

          • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

YOU can’t handle the truth eh?

            • PBanks says:

If you think that you’re lazy and uneducated, then good for you, but please don’t lump all other Bermudians in that category.

        • haha really? says:

My favourite part was “we add culture to your island”

Get over yourself, you’re no better than the ones who sit and do nothing and complain. We appreciate our foreigners, majority of Bermudians do, but like everywhere there are some “bad apples” If Bermuda is so bad for you than go back to Canada. Im tired of people coming here and trying to indulge themselves in OUR problems. Acting as if you’re ENTITLED to something.

Please move on and instead of complaining and adding to the issue, go out and solve it. Ive never seen you helping clean up Bermuda beaches, picking up trash on the roads, or getting involved in youth programs.

          you got that, eh?

          • Family Man says:

Are you talking about CanadianGirl or Tweed?

            • haha really? says:

              It was About CanadianGirl.

Tweed is a whole different story, thats just embarrassing!

            • Non OBAer says:

Clearly you have a learning disability that was never addressed Family Man.

Maybe stick to going over the cartoons could be more of your spped mate.

          • CommonCents says:

How do you know CanadianGirl hasn’t done those things to help clean up the island, or hasn’t been involved in mentoring youth?

            • haha really? says:

Very general comment. Of course expected that, but honestly do you really think they have ? Would love to see proof but obviously you won’t find any. Don’t be so petty

          • Expat says:

Some of us do all those things you list, and have done for years.

            • Non OBAer says:

Thats because you came here because to many Bermudian business owners believe you are ‘more reliable,’ and have sold their souls for that narrative.
So you have local parent workinf 2-3 jobs a week and dont have that luxury.

            • haha really? says:

Good on you! Im not knocking it am I? I know they’re are plenty of expats who do these sort of things, so don’t be so “captain obvious” about it.

          • Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

That entitlement part…you’re talking about a certain segment of BERMUDAS population right??

        • TimBuc says:

Put a sock in it. Why you getting bent all out of shape for.
There is not enough people here to fill all the jobs on this island this we know.
Just sad that expats are killing the blue collar field. BTW go fix me a sandwich

      • Non OBAer says:

        Starve clown

    • PBanks says:

I don’t think this is a “Lol” matter, but point well taken. This issue isn’t going away any time soon.

    • Non OBAer says:

You sound like a child. Smh and you will be the 1st to question why politics have to enter in peoples comments.

      Let go and grow up.

    • Here we go again says:

This happens every year as we get close to halloween. Nothing new something always get throw as buses etc. Nothing to do with Tweed, just rude children that need a cut..

  8. Triangle Drifter says:

How cowardly dumb do you have to be to pick on defenseless buses? What is the point? Look at who is inconvenienced the most by buses not running.

    Just plain senseless.

  9. Bertie Bus says:

maybe they can clean them for a change when they are fixing the vandalism. Not condoning the Vandalism at all its pathetic and cause by small mined trouble makers, but the busses are disgusting of late.

  10. Proud Bermudian says:

    And the 8:15 No. 2 Ord Road….

  11. Terry says:

Wait until the last Cruise Ship departs.

Winter will be a ferry tale.

    • Will-Not-Let-This-Die!! says:

      Like you Terry

      A fairytale=d#*^ ridiculous read.

  12. T.Wade says:

Are there any afternoon to evening bus cancellations….and are the going to be any early morning cancellations for tomorrow morning?

  13. Unus sed leo says:

It’s just naturally got to stop.

  14. Zevon says:

    Animals. Spoiled brats.
Tomorrow they will be the ones complaining because there aren’t enough government handouts.
    Morons.

  15. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Y’all want to attack this social demon that’s slowly killing bermuda??

Ok i’ll be taking applications from highly trained and disciplined MEN to form an anonymous group to sweep clean those who think they’re gangsta!
There will be NO interventions from your mommies or ANYONE else…so…if YOU are huffing and puffing your chest as you read this…see you soon G.

    Let’s make Bermuda,Bermuda again.

  16. mmm says:

The somerset and central bus parking lots are either fenced in or walled in, the st. george,s parking lot is an open lot. I am not familiar with alarms, how-ever they do need to be installed with cameras. Will it cost 15 to 30 thousand dollars to protect our buses in the eastern parking lot ? or do these incidents rare, like two thousand dollars worth of damage every two years. If the culprits are caught, they need to fully compensate the public purse, and do community service….yes I would say community service. Prison time means a cost to the taxpayer, 200 hours of community servive or go to prison when you fail to do x amount of hours per month, possibly 40 hours per month.

  17. Oh,I see now says:

My thoughts on what is happening….ahhhh just forget it cause they can give two $hits about their own life.

  18. O.M.G says:

I just want to know why money is left on buses over night that does not sound right very careless I think.

  19. Hair says:

Can’t make a comment on Twit, oops Tweed!!!

  20. mmm says:

I don,t know why money is left on the buses late at night, perhaps it is a matter of costs….and they rarely get robbed/vandalised..On the same matter, how does one show their displeasure at a work permit holder destroy a cash vault on a bus and take its contents. I am sure those contents were not contributed to any legal defense fund. And if you were trying to feed your family some help is available, instead of forcing a number of people to lose time from work and pay out much more money for a taxi to get to work, and pay to repair damaged money containers.

  21. Concerned Citizen says:

So we can survive a major hurricane? And foolishness like this shuts us down!!!?

  22. Oh,I see now says:

It is interesting how money kept everyone from races, cultures ,political affiliations and religions cordial with each other ,kept us quiet.Once that common denominator was taken out of the equation the masks we had been wearing over the decades simultaneously came off too.It is frightening to even contemplate the thought of living in a matrix of our own design all these years.Laws have made racism tolerable at best but the attitude remains stuck in time.I think about the guy in the movie eating the steak ,he knows it isn’t real but would rather live a blissful lie than deal with a harsh reality…….How many of you would choose the BLUE pill?

  23. mmm says:

it was suggested that the vandalism of the buses and theft of money was related to folks who have work permits ..I say they are not related.
