PLP Express Condolences After Fatal Shooting

The PLP is “deeply saddened to hear that another young man has lost his life to senseless gun crime” and it is a “sobering reminder that we as a community must collectively take strides to reduce the prevalence of these types of crimes,” Shadow Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban said today.

Mr Roban comments follow after a 19-year-old man died as a result of a shooting last night on Upland Street in Devonshire.

“The Bermuda Progressive Labour Party is deeply saddened to hear that another young man has lost his life to senseless gun crime,” Mr Roban said.

“Today, another family mourns the loss of a loved one, and it is a sobering reminder that we as a community must collectively take strides to reduce the prevalence of these types of crimes.

“In the interest of public safety, and to prevent further loss of life, we renew our call for the creation of a Jobs Corp program to give our young men a pathway away from the streets and push for strong action be take to combat youth unemployment, lack of opportunities and the need for not just jobs, but a sense of hope and belonging and that they matter in Bermuda.
