Video: Channel 4 Interviews Actor Earl Cameron
The UK’s Channel 4 News recently interviewed Bermudian actor Earl Cameron, who spoke about his decades long career, and also delved into the U.S Presidential election, saying he thinks Donald Trump will be “disaster, not only to the United States, but to the whole world.”
The legendary actor will be the first inductee in the UK’s first black film and television Hall of Fame, a well deserved honour for the 99-year-old Bermudian, who was one of the first black stars in the British film industry.
Born in Bermuda in 1917, he moved to Britain prior to World War II and after appearing on London’s West End stage, he went on to have a very impressive film career with numerous roles, including co-starring with Sean Connery in the 007 blockbuster ”Thunderball”, and portraying African dictator Edmond Zuwanie in the 2005 thriller “The Interpreter” alongside Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.
When asked by the interviewer if he was ever tempted to go and work as an actor in the United States, Mr. Cameron said, “I had no great temptation to go to America.
“America at that time, Hollywood was full of racism as you know,” Mr Cameron added. “I mean, to some degree, it still is; but then, far, far worse.
“I remember Sidney Poitier saying that when he first went to Hollywood, the only black person he saw was a shoe-shine boy. That was the remark he made. Whether it was true or not, I don’t know.
“There were no black people in film at that time. Even among the technicians, I don’t think you would’ve found any black people. It was very, very white.”
When the interviewer mentions that Mr. Cameron is almost a century old, commenting that he he has “seen everything,” Mr. Cameron said, “I’ve seen an awful lot, yes.”
When asked what surprises him, Mr. Cameron said, “Mr. Trump. He’s very boastful. No sense of dignity. For my part, I think he’ll be a disaster, not only to the United States, but to the whole world. That’s my opinion.”

He Trumped this interview.
wow this is amazing. i really believe that we should be teaching our kids about our own history, I never realized who this man really was until i was an adult. so wonderful to see that he is being recognized internationally for his accomplishments!
We have been systematically denied our History.
Pathetic
A Brilliant man, and it was a honor to have met him, but more importantly that the Bermuda Government under the P.L.P did the right thing to recognize Mr. Earl Cameron and all his achievements, and name the City Hall theater after him, in his honor. To do this while he is still with us and celebrate his legacy and to be there as a witness was indeed embracing Royalty of the British Empire.
Another great achievement by a Son of the Soil,I’m now 80 and I remember first hearing about him when I was an early teenager,he was to attend a showing of his then latest movie at the Odd Fellows Lodge Hall in Somerset,I don’t recall him in attendance, but I do recall seeing the Movie,I don’t recall tyhe title but one scene I will never forget his character as a wounded soldier claiming he could not walk.As usual all worker out well.As a fellow onion,I am thrilled for his accomplishments,
