DNDC To Host ‘Get In Gear Real Life Strategies’
The Department for National Drug Control [DNDC], in collaboration with its drug prevention partners – the Bermuda Police Service, CADA, PRIDE Bermuda, Department of Health, Department of Child and Family Services, Bemuda Professional Counselling Services, and Bermuda Hospitals Board – will be hosting a “Get in Gear Real Life Strategies: Marijuana, Alcohol, Tobacco, Other illicit Drugs & Paraphernalia” info session for parents/guardians, educators, coaches, and those who interact with young people tomorrow [Dec 8] at 5.30pm at Cedarbridge Academy.
A spokesperson said, “The objectives is for concerned and curious parents/guardians, and educators to ask real-life questions, understand and recognize the signs and clues around drug use, learn what treatment options are available on island for persons 18 and under, understand the serious consequences that come with drug use, become familiar with current drug use equipment, and know what the law says about drugs and alcohol for minors.”

Tobacco killed 480,000 Americans in 2013, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Alcohol killed 29,001 in the same year.
By comparison, heroin, prescription drugs, including opiods (pain killers) and benzodiazapines (anti-anxiety medication) and cocaine, the drugs with the highest number of deaths other than tobacco and alcohol, combined to kill 4,202 Americans.
Cannabis, which is legal for recreational use in Washington and Colorado, did not cause any deaths, according to the CDC.
Digest those numbers and remind me why herb is illegal here, and five out of eight images on the dndc ad are ganja related. SAGE commission was right dndc should have been abolished.
No one is talking what should and shouldn’t be. I believe this is for persons who deal with young people so folk know what’s available on island and what’s a red flag. It looks like they are educating the public, smoke all the weed you want. Don’t brain wash the kids.
Are you kidding me? They are educating the public by demonizing a medicinal plant that kills no one yet don’t call for cancer sticks to be made illegal along with alcohol?
