Berkeley Institute Win Senior Track & Field Title

The Bermuda School Sports Federation Senior Track and Field Championships concluded with Berkeley Institute crowned the champions, Saltus Grammar School claiming second place, while CedarBridge Academy was third.

Held at the National Sports Centre, Berkeley won comfortably with 572.50 points, Saltus Grammar School claimed second place with 449 points with CedarBridge Academy finishing third with 422.50 points.

Two athletes shared the title of Under 16 Girls Champion. Taylor Hines from Bermuda High School was victorious in the 200 and 400 meter events while finishing second in the 100 meters. Brijette Basden won the 100 meters and the high jump, and finished second to Hines in the 200 meters.

Clevonte Lodge from the Berkeley Institute left everyone in his wake winning the 100, 200 and 400 meter sprints to finish as Champion in the Under 16 Boys division.

Cameron Coffey from Saltus Grammar won the discus and javelin events while finishing third in the shot put. Quincy Kuzyk from Somersfield Academy coasted to victories in the 3000 and 1500 meters, and finished third in the discus.

Two female athletes also shared the Over 16 Girls Champion title; Inshan-Nae Smith of CedarBridge Academy finished second in the high jump, long jump, and 200 meters; while Lynsey Palmer of Saltus Grammar finished second in the 3000, 1500 and 800 meters.

The only record broken during the two day meet came when Brianna Mendes from Bermuda High School won the 3000 meters in a time of 11:40.42.

The Berkeley Institute’s Elisha Darrell won the Over 16 Boys Title after the talented jumper won the long, triple and high jump events. Fellow CARIFTA qualifier Johndell Cumberbatch from Saltus Grammar also had an impressive medal haul with wins in the 3000 and 1500 meters, and finishing second in the 800 meters behind Berkeley’s Aaron Jacobs.
