Photo Set II: Spirit Of Bermuda Pirate Fundraiser

March 15, 2017

The Bermuda Sloop Foundation held its largest fundraiser of the year on Sunday [March 12] with the Spirit of Bermuda anchoring in Hamilton Harbour near #1 Car Park in front of a gathered crowd.

The Pirates of Bermuda had taken members of the community hostage, all in the name of a good cause, with the hostages to be saved by the paying of charitable ransom or made to walk the plank into the waters of Hamilton Harbour.

A spokesperson previously said, “To date, over 4,000 students have been student crew on board Spirit of Bermuda, experiencing expeditionary learning and character-building through sail training. Increased awareness of responsibility and the benefits of teamwork, learning the importance of protecting our marine environment, Bermuda’s maritime history, and gaining self confidence are among the many benefits students receive during their voyages on Spirit.
.
“Thanks to Bermuda’s generous community of individual and corporate donors, Bermuda Sloop Foundation has now been offering these programmes to Bermuda’s middle school youth for 10 years! Funds raised from this event contribute towards student voyages and bursary funding.”
