Video: America’s Cup Race Boats Highlighted

This week’s ‘Minute with Mikaela’ highlights the America’s Cup class yachts, saying that while the boats they will be racing “mostly look the same, it’s said the team with the best technology will win the Cup.”

During the Minute, Mikaela Pearman said, “Today we’re taking a look at the machines that will be flying across the Great Sound this summer, the America’s Cup class yachts.

“The six teams launch the boats they will be racing during the during the 35th America’s Cup, and while they mostly look the same, it’s said the team with the best technology will win the Cup.

“Land Rover BAR were the first team to launch their boat R1 Rita at their new base in Dockyard, and it was christened the same day. Oracle Team USA unveiled their AC class yacht 17 at an evening event on Valentine’s Day, seven years to the day they first won the Cup. It was christened the next day.

“Artemis Racing were up next with Magic Blue at an event filled with team family members, partners, media, and dignitaries, and christened the boat that day.

“Down in Kiwiland, Emirates Team New Zealand launched their boat New Zealand, which had one very different component: cycle stations instead of the normal grinder stations.

“SoftBank Team Japan held a traditional Japanese ceremony to unveil their AC class yacht Hikari, with a Shinto priest flown in for the occasion.

“Finally, Groupama Team France had a low-key yacht unveiling, the last team to launch their AC class boat. ”
