Leopard’s Club To Screen “Chilled and Shaken”
The Leopard’s Club International Educational Committee will be hosting a screening of the film “Chilled and Shaken,” highlighting the closing night of “Hubie’s Jazz Club” in 2010, on Thursday, April 27 at 6.00pm.
Admission costs $10. The film will be followed by a talk from Manders Ingham about “The Psycho-dynamic Impact on Bermuda’s Cultural Development of Hubies”
A spokesperson said, “George Scott, chairman of The Leopards’ Club International Club has taken the lead in highlighting key community subjects by showing two Dale Butler documentaries. The first one is about Bermuda’s homeless situation and will be shown at 6 p.m. at the club on Thursday, April 20th.
“The second documentary is the closing night of “Hubie’s Jazz Club” in 2010 and will be shown the following week at the same time. The movie will be followed by a talk from Manders Ingham about “The Psycho-dynamic Impact on Bermuda’s Cultural Development of Hubies.”
Dale Butler said, “I am honoured to have The Leopards’ Club show these two features. I am not a filmmaker but used this medium to get the message out. I am pleased that the Salvation Army will be present on April 20th along with Mr. Rodney Smith who did the first homeless report in 1992.
“Bermuda is fortunate to have many organisations and individuals helping the homeless on a regular basis but a comprehensive plan is missing.
“With regards to the musical event; unfortunately, efforts to revive jazz in Bermuda have not been fruitful. We lost Derek “CJ” Symonds who had a weekly radio show highlighting jazz, Hubie’s, then “Shine’s House of Music” closed.
“There is some wind in the sail, however, to have a renaissance with the “The Wall Street Band” and “Take 6” attracting great crowds. Finding a dedicated venue remains a huge problem for musicians as a whole. Admission to each event is $10. Mrs.
“Molly Brown, who ran Hubie’s with her late husband, will be present and all musicians and Hubie’s patrons will be in for a treat at this reunion at The Leopards’ Club on April 27th at 6.00pm.”
