Photos: Art Walk Event Held In St. George’s
St. George’s recently hosted the seventh Art Walk event, created by artist Ami Zanders and organized this year by the Hub 1 Tourism Manager, Kristin White.
The event is designed to celebrate local art and artists. The 2017 sponsors were Bermuda Tourism Authority, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Robertson’s Drug Store, Bermuda Arts Council, Corporation of St. George, and Bermuda Economic Development Corporation.
Ms. White said, “The town is currently welcoming the Tall Ships – they’ve been arriving since Friday – so we thought it’d be a great fit to host the Art Walk event during their visit, and to tie in the nautical twist, we called it ‘Knot the Art Walk’.”
“The event highlights included performances by In Motion School of Dance, Sui Generis, and Mike Hind. On site creating art were the Bermuda Plein Air painters, chalk artist Rebecca Martin, Bermuda Society of Arts, who hosted a Quick Draw table [the results will be featured in their gallery], and Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation’s ‘Art in the Park’ kids’ zone at Smith Garden on Barber’s Alley.”

Ms. White said, “We paired five artists up with five Opti sails. They created works of art, which were then sailed around the harbour by the America’s Cup Endeavour boats and sailors. It was amazing. Thanks to Ocean Sails in St. George’s, who partially sponsored the sails, we are now planning to sell the painted sails to raise money for the Endeavour programme.”
“Another incredible highlight were the huge panels set up all along Water Street to showcase the launch of James Cooper’s contemporary Caribbean art exhibit, ‘Seeen’. You can see more at seeen.tumblr.com.”
Ms. White said, “All in all we were very pleased with the event. It was a super busy day in Dockyard, but we were still able to get a good crowd and many of the vendors and stores said they had a fantastic sales day.
“Huge thank you to all of the sponsors, my amazing team of volunteers, and all of the artists, performers and vendors that ensured it was a fabulous day.”
