Photos: Canvas Is Black Art Exhibition Opens

A ribbon cutting was held this weekend at Karma Nightclub to mark the opening of the ‘Canvas is Black’ art exhibition.

A spokesperson said, “A groundbreaking art that invites audiences to explore the depth, complexity, and beauty of Blackness—through the lens of Bermudian artists.

“Organized by The Canvas is Black, an artist-led collective based in Bermuda, the show is rooted in community. Built for the people of Bermuda and dreamed of by two independent artists, Jasmin Simons and Keivon Seymour.

“It uplifts voices often unheard, offers opportunities for visibility and sales, and fosters conversations that matter. This is more than an art show—it’s a call to witness and honor the richness of Black expression in all its forms.

“The show features visual art pieces rooted in the Bermudian experience, alongside performance artists whose work challenges conventional narratives and creates space for raw, honest storytelling.

“This exhibition reclaims ‘Black’ not as absence, but as presence: a foundation for creation, identity, and revolution,” a spokesperson added. “Here, Black is more than a color—it is a metaphor. A canvas on which identity, resistance, healing, and pride are boldly painted, where we use our Blackness as a vessel of the truth

“From song and spoken word to paintings and dance, each piece declares…We exist. We create. We define ourselves.”
