June 24, 2017

One Love Promotions, in association with MF Productions, will be presenting a charity tribute to Kent Outerbridge, also known as Fadda Dub, called “Pull Up and Rewind” on Saturday, July 1 at the BAA parking lot from 8.00pm to 3.00am, featuring reggae performer Mr. Luciano.

A spokesperson said, “A vinyl dance to celebrate the life of Kent Outerbridge. He arrived on January 16th, 1953 and departed on May 30th, 2017.

“The father of reggae music in Bermuda, in the early 1970’ he visited Jamaica as a “ball head” and came back a rasta mon. In the summer of 1974, Kent opened Dub City Variety. The name Dub City was created from the type of reggae music played at the time in Jamaica, which was known as ‘dub’.

“After spending years in Bailey’s Bay, he then expanded onto Court Street, where he sold a variety of red, gold and green items, clothing, and of course music.

“Fadda Dub had a passion for his sound system. He was the founder of Dub City International Sound, which was at one time one of the largest sound systems in Bermuda. He would travel from east to west with a truck of speakers in tow.”

“Dub brought in a lot of reggae artists to Bermuda, including Garnett Silk, Fred Locks, Beres Hammond, Sanchez, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Morgan Heritage, Luciano, Frankie Paul, and many, many more. He loved doing reggae shows; his idea behind it was that the same individuals going to the shows would go to Dub City Records & Boutique to get their clothing ‘ganzee’ when they purchased their tickets.

“Dub put on one of the largest reggae shows in Bermuda called “Reggae in Paradise,” which featured over 25 local and foreign artist and band members. To Dub, music was life.

“Kent had a big heart. He was always willing to help others, which was one of his biggest strengths personally and professionally. Kent was always giving to people and did not hesitate to do so. There are many people that will remember Kent for his kindness.

“Dub City was the top selling distributor of VP records outside of Jamaica. This included the Caribbean and North America for over fifteen years.”

“It is with this that Mr. Luciano / JahMessenJah has been invited to perform at the tribute dance. No stranger to Bermuda, JahMessenJah was a personal friend of Dub. He is also one of VP records all-time top selling artists and has a powerful, positive message to deliver to the people of Bermuda.

“Local DJs will include Dub City Int’l, Magnum Force Int’l, Jones Town Int’l, Black Lion, Nuclear Weapon, Lenky Boy Movement, Black Star, and Reality Sound.

“So make it a date and don’t be late. Tickets are available online from ptix.bm, and venue outlets include Jamaican Grill, Fish n Tings, and Dub City Variety Store; the cost is $40 in advance, or $50 at the door.

“The event is sponsored by First Class Maintenance, John Barritts & Sons, Irie FM, Hott 1075, WKD, Carlsberg Elephant Beer, VB Detailing, and Electro Tech.

“Part proceeds will be going to Bermuda Diabetes Association and to Dub City Int’l. This event is brought to you by: One Love Promotions and Magnum Force Entertainment.”
