Dockyard Wins ‘Top Cruise Destination’ Award
Dockyard has scooped a top award after being named as the region’s best cruise ship destination.
It has been voted as the Top Cruise Destination in the Eastern Caribbean, Bahamas and Bermuda in Cruise Critic’s Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards. Last year it was named as a Top 5 destination in the region.
A spokesperson for Cruise Critic said: “The awards are given based exclusively on consumer feedback, based on reviews posted to the Cruise Critic website over the past year – so not based on a poll or survey, but specifically on first-hand feedback from cruisers themselves.”
Andrew Dias, the West End Development Corporation’s General Manager said: “We all work hard to ensure standards are kept high and credit must go to the entire team for achieving fantastic results.
“So while receiving this award is great news, credit must go not just to the WEDCO team but every person and business that provides goods and services at the Port. I send thanks and praises to all who have made it possible.”
He added: “It is particularly pleasing to receive this award as it is voted for by the people who use the facilities which reflects positively on Dockyard and Bermuda as a whole.”
And the guy who headed up this hard working team that made Dockyard what it is today can’t get elected. Amazing! Some show of appreciation.
I know right, what have we come to?
The guy who ‘made Dockyard what it is today’ is a former leader of the PLP. He took the lead, amidst of venomous criticism, to build the cruise ship pier. I believe he is ultimately responsible for making Dockyard what it is today.
“venomous criticism” I don’t think people had a problem with the pier being built itself but they did have a problem with the all the overruns (almost triple than what was originally quoted) and poor design after it was built. The tie up bollards where sub standard and when the ship put pressure on the ropes they moved. This had to be then rebuilt which cost government even more. I think Dr Brown made a wise decision building it to help boost Tourism at the time. We cant just thank a few people its the whole Dockyard community that made this happen. Next step is our old airport.
There’s a reason why they weren’t re-elected…a long list of them actually.
Name him and I’ll tell you why .
Andrew Dias?
Unelectable
Great job Bermuda! This is an awesome look.
Credit should go to Ewart Brown for having the vision to build that pier
You are forgetting the contractor who never even put in a bid to repair the dock that he built a year before.
There was no ‘vision’, it was driven by the cruise ship industry which was introducing bigger ships. If Bermuda wanted to stay as a player in the cruise ship business, it was necessary to do this work.
Also it is worth pointing out that the so called ‘vision’ left the taxpayer significantly worse off due to overruns which were/are being investigated by either the auditor general or the police ….
PLP winning awards already
Nope, but they will, even if they had no part in it. Just wait for that new air terminal to open in a few years. You will see some chest puffing as never seen before.
That will never be built
The plp and peoples campaign cannot let it happen after their protests and marches
Is the peoples campaign still around?
It’s happening regardless lol you can’t do nothing
Hey Triangle , the government of the day gets to boast about the Good during its reign and accountable for the Bad during its reign, it does not matter who started something , it matters though who finishes it.
In that case the government of the day immediately gets the blame for everything wrong the day they take over. That’s how it worked for the last five years.
Well done Bermuda, i think Dock yard is still a part of Bermuda
Great Job to all the tourists attractions in dockyard, thanks to Ewart Brown for having the vision, thanks to the new BTA, for getting people here, oba for the Americas cup village and the new plp government for coming to power and hopefully will be a government for all Bermudians.
You forgot to mention Wedco’s Ray Charlton and all the hard working Wedco staff.
All Brown did was spearhead a second wharf. That’s it, I don’t see whole he should get a whole lot of recognition when it’s the people that work and operate businesses there that make Dockyard what it is.
Gee people – just applaud!!
…Feels that so much these days turns into venomous political slander.
We should make backyard a red light district.
