Sheila Johnson & Mary Lodge To Be Honoured
The Corporation of St. George [CSG] will be hosting its second annual UNESCO World Teachers Day event at King’s Square on Thursday [Oct 5] at 11.00am, where they will honour Sheila Johnson and Mary Lodge.
A spokesperson said, “The Corporation of St. George [CSG] will be hosting its second annual UNESCO World Teachers Day on October 5th, 2017. The event will take place in the King’s Square beginning at 11 a.m.
“The CSG will honour two former teachers of St. George’s schools. This year we will honour Ms. Sheila Johnson, formerly of East End Primary and Ms. Mary Lodge, formerly of St. George’s Preparatory School.
“World Teachers Day has been held annually on October 5th since 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 UNESCO / ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
“This recommendation sets forth the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as international standards for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment employment teaching and learning conditions. The slogan for this year’s Teacher’s Day is “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers”.
“The CSG would like to invite all to attend and help us honour our teachers, for they are the key to shaping our future. The event will begin with an opening by the Town Crier, Greeting by the Mayor of St. George, Quinell Francis, musical performances, words by the Minister of Education and presentations to the honourees.”
