UNESCO World Teachers Day Event Tomorrow

The Corporation of St. George [CSG] will be hosting its third annual UNESCO World Teachers Day tomorrow [Oct 5] beginning at 11.00am at King’s Square.

A spokesperson said, “The Corporation of St. George [CSG] will be hosting its third annual UNESCO World Teachers Day on October 5th, 2018. The event will take place in the King’s Square beginning at 11 am. The CSG will honor Mrs. Rose Douglas, a former teacher of East End Primary School and St. George’s Secondary School.

“World Teachers Day has been held annually on October 5th since 1994 to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 UNESCO / ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

“This recommendation sets forth the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as international standards for their initial preparation, further education, recruitment employment teaching and learning conditions. The slogan for this year’s Teacher’s Day is “Teaching in Freedom, Empowering Teachers”.

“The CSG would like to invite all to attend and help us honor our teachers, for they are the key to shaping our future. The event will begin with an opening by the Town Crier, Greeting by the Mayor of St. George, Quinell Francis, musical performances, and presentation to the honoree.

“In case of inclement weather, the function will be held at Penno’s Wharf Cruise Terminal.”
